If your LO has a wet diaper only, do you still wipe? Is your LO a boy or girl?

Yes but honestly, there have been times I have skipped if we are out and without wipes or whatever.

When DS was in diapers, it depended on how much he peed. I didn't with every change, but about every other. Definitely for first thing in the morning.

Yes, but with water, and fully dry.
No diaper rash in his life, so I think it worked!

I usually don't, except for first thing in the morning. But he got a bit of a diaper rash from him being on antibiotics and then me being on them, so we've been wiping and re-applying diaper cream at every diaper change recently.

We do a few of the diaper changes a day. She gets a rash if we don't.

I voted "yup" and "girl", but if it's not a lot of pee sometimes I just change it and don't wipe. Sometimes I blot with tissue instead of using a wipe too.

Boy and not all the time...it depends on how long he has been in the diaper.

Girl & usually only in the mornings and after naps. :S I should be better about it.

Girl and yes about 95% of the time. If we are out and about and I'm changing her in the car or something sometimes I'll just throw on a clean dipe.

Girl and no - I feel bad now, but I don't usually wipe if it's just a pee diaper because "urine is sterile"

I voted yes and I have a girl. I did notice with DD1 that the need for a wipe became less and less as she got older. With DD2 (who is 5wks old) her diaper area smells if I skip even one diaper change without wiping.

Yup and a boy. I don't like urine on my skin so I imagine he doesn't either plus I always thought that you can get an infection without wiping.

Not all the time w. a boy.
After reading all this though, I'm going to start.... oops!

@ShootingStar: @allison: Glad I'm not alone! I don't either, but after the other thread about "what's your diaper routine" I was like wait a minute.... Fortunately, DS hasn't gotten diaper rash except a lil redness when he was a few days old and when he had the flu a few weeks ago.
@.twist.: I know right!!! I might start doing it after his morning diaper after reading all these responses!

One of each, and yes. They've each only had one diaper rash, and that was during bad diarrhea

Yep, I always wipe during my daughter's diaper changes. Just like I always wipe after I pee too.

LO is a girl and I didn't wipe after every wet diaper. If it was super wet I used a cloth wipe. She has never had diaper rash. Now she's 26 months and potty trained so of course we wipe after she goes pee in the potty
nectarine / 2220 posts
Yes, always.
Haven't you ever peed in a public bathroom that was out of TP, and it felt kind of gross/stingy after? I just assumed her pee was acidic too, so I've always wiped. At home I'll do it just with water and pat dry.

Boy-- usually. Although it gets harder and harder since he is a moving target. So sometimes, if it isn't too wet, I just slap that new diaper on and send him on his way.

Can I ask a stupid thread-jacking question? When you say, "S/he's never had diaper rash" do you mean, a diaper rash that needed treatment? I don't know if my LO has ever had "diaper rash" per se but occasionally he's gotten a little red (just on his bum in between his cheeks) and it goes away with some butt-paste. Is that actual diaper rash or just some irritation? Sorry, again for thread-jacking!

@travellingbee: girlfriend, you'll know when it's diaper rash. We've had it once with our son and it was terrible. It was bumpy and it bled. My lo's bum is red every morning but goes away after his quick bath.

Boy and usually! If he hasn't had a change in awhile then yes, but sometimes no (especially if the diaper isn't that wet).
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@CupQuakeWalk: Good to know. That sounds very unpleasant! I have an almost 11 month old and I still don't know what diaper rash is! LOL!
pomelo / 5820 posts
@travellingbee: Red is just irritation... the splotchy bright red/looks like it's bleeding rash is diaper rash (in my experience). I always put cream on him if he's red to prevent it from turning into diaper rash!
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
No, I don't wipe C after every wet diaper change. He's never had any irritation or rash and it seems to be working out just fine!
pomegranate / 3863 posts
The thought of NOT wiping never crossed my mind! We have a son and we wipe every diaper change.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@MapleMoose: @Sapphiresun: I think if I had a girl, I would, but I have a boy and the thought doesn't occur to me bc boys won't "wipe" even when they're older. They just shake and move on. Even if it means getting driplets on their underwear.
@travellingbee: No diaper rash is a good thing!!
