Like, when did you start giving him/her some crayons and paper and letting him/her go to town? Did you start with crayons? Aquadoodle? Sidewalk chalk?

I gave R some crayons and construction paper last Friday and she did great with it. I know they do crafts every day at day care so I felt like she would be ok. I am going to hold off with paint and markers, even if washable. We got her some sidewalk chalk but we haven't tried it yet.
She is 13.5 months.

She didn't do so great with crayons for a while, she did mostly stabbing motions until she was about 18 months. Now she gets it and enjoys crayons and chalk.

She is 18 months and "coloring" is one of her favorite activities! So much so that our wall currently looks like some sort of graffiti I like the large crayons that are hard to break. We started giving her crayons around a year.

I gave my son crayons before 18 months, and he put them in his mouth, so I put those away for a while. I think I started again at age 2 and he got it.
We do sidewalk chalk pretty regularly, but I honestly hate it. He rolls around in it a lot!

at about 12 months we gave her crayons - she would make dots (stabbing motions like @mediagirl:). Now she's better about making lines - but I think they do it at daycare too, so she gets lots of practice. She mostly enjoys taking a crayon out of the cup, drawing a line, then picking a new colour.

Between 15-18 months but at 2 years he has really taken an interest in it.
We tried with crayons but he was always eating them so we switched to colored pencils and they work much better for him. He also has a chalkboard easel set up in the livingroom and colors on that with chalk nearly every day.

Interested by 16-17 months....started to get really hgood at it (ie she makes more than a line or two in one sitting and asks to color) around 20 months.

He has been doing arts and crafts at daycare for a long time. I'm not sure when the first time he was given crayons. He is almost 2 and he definitely enjoys coloring.

Between 12-13 months for crayons. He would make marks on the paper, but didn't start scribbling till a little while later. We introduced sidewalk chalk outside around 19 months. He only colors for about 30-60 seconds, and then he usually throws the crayons on the floor. Hoping he gets more into coloring as he gets closer to 2.

no interest in coloring at 18 months! He'll do it for a minute and then throw the crayons.

I started recently (doc mentioned it). I'm using crayons and paper and I also have chalk. He doesn't get it yet and we are working on keeping them out of his mouth (15 months).

We gave him crayons at restaurants really early on (9-10 months). At 14 months we coloured on our sliding doors with window writers. He never put them in his mouth or tried to colour elsewhere.
He also has a general preference for markers and can colour for long periods of time if he's in the mood. He has never really been interested in crayons and I don't really have to worry about him decorating our house with marker. Plus, Crayola markers wash off so easily so it doesn't bother me if it gets on his hands (often) or clothes (very rare).
ETA: we have an aquadoodle that he got for his 1st birthday and it's never interested him much. We introduced sidewalk chalk last summer (17-18 months) and he enjoyed them.
