We ate a lot of Hawaiian bread! I don't think I've ever seen it on the East Coast, but I really miss it!
What are some things you grew up eating that you haven't had forever?

@Mrs. Bee: as in the packaged rolls and loafs? or is there a different kind of hawaiian bread?
admin / watermelon / 14210 posts
@photojane: we usually got the loaf! yup you're thinking of the right one!

@Mrs. Bee: i love that stuff! we're on the east coast (virginia), and hawaiian bread is everywhere. i especially love the rolls.

you don't have hawaiian bread in the east coast?! that is still a staple at my house, i love it so much! there's a place here that uses hawaiian bread for burger buns... it's a revelation!
i miss a lot of the traditional taiwanese foods i grew up eating. i recently started pinning a bunch of taiwanese "desserts" like red bean soup with tapioca pearls, green bean soup, and black sesame soup. i also miss the red bean and black sesame dumplings i used to eat for breakfast all the time growing up.

Peanut butter and fluff sandwiches....Crap! now I'm going to have to go buy some marshmallow fluff.
@Mrs. Bee: I love Hawaiian bread! Maybe the don't sell it up north? we have it here in the south and we use it often for dips, sliders, sandwiches...all sorts of stuff. I personally just like to eat them plain.

My mom used to make an awesome casserole with kielbasa sausage and scalloped potatoes . . . serious comfort food! My dad also makes the best cornbread known to mankind. I miss it - and miss spending time with him in the kitchen.
@MrsBee: Hawaiian bread is the bomb diggity - they sell it (at least in roll form) here in Atlanta in Publix supermarkets.

I miss being able to eat horrible foods without gaining an ounce of weight. Nachos (we made these every day after school), pizza rolls, cheesy's (tortilla with melted cheese), little party pizzas. I ate horrible and was still a size zero, I miss those days! haha

@Mrs. Bee: it's not quite as good but they sell the rolls at Stop and Shop....not sure if you have one by you, though. My parents always bring me some loaves. I could mail some to you when they come again!
I miss my grandma's Vietnamese food. And her Chinese food, but especially her Vietnamese.

I love hawaiian bread! Hurmm.. I just miss my mom's cooking and not having to worry/think about what I'm going to eat.

@Mrs. Bee: The brand they sell in all the stores around here (Philly) is King's Hawaiian. I think I've only ever seen the rolls, but it's definitely there!
I miss Eggo waffles. Not that I can't eat them now, but I never ever buy them.

@Mrs. Bee: Yum! My mom serves spinach dip with Hawaiian bread. But she has a hard time finding it in Texas. It's all over here in the Midwest though.
I miss all of my mom's cooking. Especially her pasta sauce and lasagna. Yummmm!

I miss tv dinners. I know how horrible they are for you, but they were always a treat when my parents went out. The ones with fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and a brownie.

I miss my dad's Greek cooking. He's taught me to make a lot of it but it tastes so much better when someone else cooks it!!

My mom and aunt's cooking. Now that I'm not close to home, I miss their vietnamese dishes.
@Boogs: You never heard of marshmallow fluff? Well, you have to get some. You have to try this amazing fruit dip. It's just half marshmallow fluff and half cream cheese. It's so good. That's pretty much the only reason I have it in my kitchen.

@jessiejo17: I know right! I was a twig growing up. And now everything I eat is packed onto my body.

I miss Portuguese sweet rolls....which apparently are very similar to Hawaiian bread, which I had never heard of.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portuguese_sweet_bread
Weird!

@Mrs. Bee: I grew up on King's Hawaiian and was devastated when I couldn't find it anywhere in NYC! Finally a few years ago, the Target on 116 and FDR opened up and they carried it! That is the only place I could ever find it... Maybe the one in BK has it too? But I don't think they have a grocery section, do they? Anyway, before finding it, my mom used to send me some and I'd freeze it to make the supply last. Haha.

I miss the homemade bread we used to make. We would grind the wheat into flour ourselves minutes before we baked the bread. It was amazing. I also miss a few weird vegan things we used to eat, like scrambled tofu. I could make that I suppose, I just never think about it.

Goat- we grew up on a goat farm, so my grandma would cook the most delicious goat meat- very similar in style to beef barbacoa. I am drooling already.
Also authentic German food- one of my parents friends was from Germany so we would go visit her during vacations and she cooked the best beef rolls, German potato salad, and braised red cabbage. We pretty much considered her a third grandma, and called her Oma.

Yum! I love Hawaiian bread too! They taste especially good when toasted. They sell that at the markets where I live so I do get them from time-to-time. I'm sure if you went to a nearby suburb market you'll find it there.
I used to love fudge bars b/c I grew up on an island. Haha! Anything cold! And I love anything creamy and chocolate!

My Grandma's Vietnamese cooking. She cooked every single day up until my Grandpa died. She cooks more often now, but we don't live in our hometown anymore. It's definitely a treat when we are home!
