I'll start:

1) It's not realistic to expect one person to be a perfect friend in every part of your life. I learned the hard way not to get too worked up if a close friend drops the ball at some point. Friendship has its ups and downs, and it's ok if someone pulls back for a while.

2) Often, the people who are bad at the "small things" are the ones who are great at the big things. My college roommate was so inconsiderate in so many small ways. After college, he was so thoughtful and considerate in so many big ways that to this day, I am staggered at what he has done for me. Oh and my friends who were thoughtful and considerate in the smaller ways? A lot of them turned out to be fair-weather friends.

3) Make sure to value and appreciate the people who make the effort to stay in touch. They are worth their weight in gold. Well at least some of them are haha!

What are some things you've learned about friendship over the years?
