I love holiday baking! Typically speaking, I make a ton of treats, bag them up, and hand them out to friends. Since we are keeping more to ourselves this year and working from home (no holiday work parties,) there has been a lot less.
This year, I made snickerdoodle cookie dough truffles, millionaire bars, and peanut butter Christmas crack (even better than regular Christmas crack.)

So far I've made ginger molasses cookies (Barefoot Contessa recipe without the crystalized ginger), honey lavender biscotti, Amaretti (chewy almond cookies) with honey, oatmeal chocolate chip, and Italian rainbow cookies (Smitten Kitchen has a recipe that is similar to the one I use). I'm taking a baking break now since I went a little overboard. The only other thing I'm definitely planning is homemade cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning. The biscotti, amaretti, and oatmeal chocolate chip recipes aren't online, but I'm happy to type them out if anyone wants them.

Mmm... everything sounds so yummy!
I always do a major cookie baking to give as gifts so I just finished that up: chocolate chip, oatmeal chocolate chip, peanut butter cup, chocolate truffle, snickerdoodle, gingerbread, sugar cookies, and Italian wedding cookies. It’s a massive operation but I love it.
For us I still have planned: gingerbread for houses, sausage balls and chouquettes for a Christmas Eve app night, and cinnamon buns for Christmas morning. Eek, hope my family eats a lot of this or I will have a lot of work to do for New Year resolutions!

Despite having no workplace to offload it at, I've also done my usual Christmas baking - ginger cookies (https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/17165/big-soft-ginger-cookies/), chex mix, sweet and spicy rosemary candied pecans, and my Papa's shortbread recipe. Being home all the time means we grab a lot of snacks, though, so I'm going to have to make another batch of shortbread this weekend.

My kids got this book from America's Test Kitchen this year as a gift - it's called "Cookies for Santa" and it has this recipe in the back that OF COURSE my kids insisted on making. I honestly viewed this as a huge chore but I am completely converted and plan on making more of them tomorrow because we ate ALL of them within one day!!! They are super chocolately and not overly sweet, which I love! But my husband likes things sweeter and he thinks they are "okay". So full disclosure there, they might not be for everyone!

I was just searching for good cookie-cutter cookie recipes. Anyone have one that works for making cut-out cookies, but is not a sugar cookie recipe? (I want something I'll actually want to eat.) Most cookies I make are more of the "drop spoonfuls of dough" variety, but I think LO would enjoy making cut-out cookies this year.

@minimalistmom: Thanks! I don't know why I didn't think to search for "positive trait cut-out cookies". Chocolate cut-out cookies, peanut butter cut-out cookies, and ginger cut-out cookies all yielded lots of results, while "alternatives to sugar cookies" was just bringing up lots of Splenda-related nonsense.

We are going to attempt a yule log on Christmas day as a family activity! Last year we made a giant version of a Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cake.

@lady baltimore: I made chocolate rollout cookies two weeks ago, and they were a big hit with my family. This recipe plus 1 tsp vanilla and an extra egg yolk:

Make sure to leave the dough in the fridge for 2 hours before rolling out. Also, use 50-50 flour and cocoa powder to roll them out. Flour will make them look dusty.
I copped out and got Betty Crocker icing. My kids loved decorating them. We had colored sugar plus I splurged in peppermint “snow” from William Sonoma.

And sorry for the serial posts but my son has indicated that he considers a cake to be required for Christmas Eve dinner. So on Christmas Eve I am going to attempt my first layer cake. I think I will look for a chocolate cake batter and a vanilla buttercream so I can use more of the “peppermint snow”. (If not for the mint flavor add, I would probably try to make the cake version of these cupcakes I made a few years ago with whole wheat flour and brown sugar cream cheese frosting.)

I always bake the same things! Usually I do some of the baking with my mom. We do: spritz, cherry blossoms, cut-outs, chocolate covered pretzels, no bake cookies, and Christmas tree meringues. Here our are cut outs. My husband helped me this year!

I went for all new (to me) recipes this year. My mom is all about gingerbread men and Christmas cookies in general. My parents are being good and staying home (as are we) so I struggled with whether or not to make her cookies for my family in the area. In the end I decided not to.

She's convinced she's on Nailed It (in a good way). We finished the first challenge and have two more to go. The first challenge was a Three Little Pigs gingerbread house scene.
