Definitely my favorite time of year! (Atleast for now)
We've used/are using ours to:
*Give 10% to some undecided ministries
*Paid off my midwife
*Got my birthing pool for our homebirth
*Got my birthing kit (which came in today!)
*Save our income for my 8 wks off & DH's wk off when baby comes
*Got some teachings we've REALLY been wanting from MarriageToday & Laugh Your Way
*Got a sander for some furniture DIY
*Getting some odds & ends birthing stuff (ball, tank, etc)
*Maybe some baby things that we don't get at the shower
And now it's all gone. lol

We are planning on buying a roof rack and cargo box for my car (so we have more space for cargo once baby comes).

@bluestriped bee: like you said, just paying off cc bills... Lots more to go though unfortunately.

We just roll ours over into next year's estimated taxes. (We have to file quarterly b/c I don't get taxes taken out of my paycheck.) Lame.

Umm, we usually owe money. Not sure what will happen this year, because I've only worked half a year.

We are hoping to buy a used motor home to make camping trips with LO a little easier.

Pay property taxes and home insurance so it's not coming out a check!LOL
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
We haven't talked about it, but probably buy a new roof.
honeydew / 7968 posts
we're probably not getting much, but if we get some, it'll just go into our savings account.
grapefruit / 4817 posts
We put away the chunk we need for property taxes, house insurance, car insurance, my husband's hunting lease, and our deductible for my delivery.
I'm not sure what we are going to do with the rest. We've been discussing opening a Roth this year.

savings. we are going to need to look into buying a bigger car soon with the baby. DH's car will be lucky to make it into spring! he'll get mine, and I'll get a bigger one (woohoo!)

Not sure what our return will be this year since my income jumped up and we refinanced our condo, but will find out this weekend! But, if we get a refund, we will use it to pay for our babymoon and put the rest in savings.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
We're putting it into our Emergency Fund! ...it's amazing as I've grown older how much more fun saving is than buying things.

Getting married bumped us into an even higher tax bracket, so we no longer get any real refund.
pomelo / 5720 posts
A new fence for our backyard and the rest will go into savings for when I'm on maternity leave.

We won't get a refund I'm jealous of everyone who does but my husband is an accountant, so he's anal about figuring out our withholding so that we don't "loan the government money interest-free all year"...... Something only an accountant would say!
grapefruit / 4817 posts
@beka: I think most accountants do this, but mine is funny. His wife makes him figure out exactly what they'll need for the vacation she wants to take that year (sometimes it's just a long weekend away), and make it so that they get back as close to that number as possible. She books it as soon as they get their return. That way he can't weasel his way out of vacation. I guess he's a bit of a workaholic.

@bree72: Ohhh no... you shouldn't have told me that.... Genius idea!
grapefruit / 4817 posts
@beka: I thought it was pretty funny. He's a partner in his firm, so I know he's a busy guy. He said they've been doing it this way for years and he just has to suck it up. Especially since their kids are all out of the house now and she's been requesting longer (= more expensive) vacations the past couple of years. He hates giving the government interest-free money, too.

Our taxes aren't done yet, so I'm not sure what we'll get back, but I think it will all go into baby-savings.

@beka: This is so funny. My brother and I both work in finance and have totally different views on this. He ALWAYS yells at me for "loaning the gov't money, interest free". But I don't care a bit. Hubs and I make enough money that we're never strapped for cash during the year and I love getting a little surprise bonus around tax time : )
We haven't decided yet if we are just going to put our return into our savings/investment account, or pay down some principal on our mortgage. We have a low mortgage rate but interest rates are so low right now there is no where great to put the money that we would earn more interest than what were paying on the mortgage.

@MamaMoose: Maybe we can blame this little quirk both on the male factor and the finance factor? Too funny!

A good chunk for us will go to paying off some debt, then the rest will go into savings to float us through my maternity leave. I love a good tax refund!!

We are paying off my car, and hopefully planning a trip to Niagara Falls (Canadian side)
grapefruit / 4187 posts
It's going right into savings and will eventually be used for my maternity leave or daycare!
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
I doubt we'll get a refund. I'll have to play mega millions if I want any extra dough.
grapefruit / 4671 posts
@beka: your husband is spot on! I so wish mine would see reason. It bugs me to lose out on interest for an enitre year.
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
We usually don't get anything back. Which isn't a bad thing!
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
We don't get tons back, but we will save it and use it for moving costs, baby things we do not get at the shower and then just general savings since I will be a SAHM.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@Boogs: Oh, how fun! My husband loves traveling by car. I think one day, I'll by a used motor home, too.

I am so jealous of all of you getting refunds! We owe over $2000 this year... not sure where we went wrong.
