I'm reading Orphan Train and not loving it. Looking to ditch it for something I'll like better - let me hear what you're reading!

Right now I'm alternating between the Alex Cross series and the Harry Bosch series. I like cop books I prefer the Bosch series because it is (slightly) more realistic I think, but I'm almost done with them so I had to start another one.

I just started A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan. So far so good...
Have you read Cloud Atlas? It's long but good.
My book club read The Orphan Train last year and I did not love it. Good idea to ditch it now.

@Mae: I love the Bosch books. DH always makes fun of my "mysteries" haha.
I'm reading The Good Girl by Mary Kubicka and really like it so far! I also like to go to the bargain section @ Barnes and Noble and just buy whatever looks good and is like 5 dollars - there have been some good Lisa Scottoline and Elin Hilderbrand ones lately.

I was about to ask this! I haven't read a book for fun in years and I am ready to get back into it.

@Mae: I love love love murder mysteries. I'm trying to get back into more literary fiction but can't really say no to a good crime read.
@Pancakes: Just looked these up and they look great! Thanks!

@knittylady: lol I know.. I often feel bad about the stuff I read because it is basically like Law and Order book edition DH doesn't get it at all. He's always like "so how many people dead so far in this book?" hah. Occasionally I try to read less fluffy stuff. I really really liked Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns-- both fiction and depressing but still interesting and compelling (they are written by an Afghani man and talk about growing up in Afghanistan in the 70s-00s). I also liked Ashley's War, which is nonfiction but reads like a fiction (about a female in a combat unit in Afghanistan-- I have no idea why I'm on an Afghanistan kick this year lol). Also going in another direction I read the whole Stephanie Plum series last year and it is the fluffiest of fluff but SO fun/fast.

Those Girls by Chevy Stevens. I've read all her books and they've been great!

Oh and if you like historical fiction I really enjoyed Those Who Save Us and and The Book Thief-- both WW2 books. I did not love Unbroken (I thought the author went on a bit and could've used a run in with a red pen) but I seem to be alone in that assessment as everyone else I know loved that book (also about WW2).

@knittylady: OOP you should read CrookedLittle Lies. It's a murder mystery but sort of Gone Girl-ish. Just came out I think and I loved it.

@Mrs. Bee: I didn't know he had written a book. I'll have to look it up!

@tlcbaby: I have not seen the movie. I have not seen many movies since LO was born But I'm sure at some point it will be at red box and we'll rent it. I think it would be a better movie. It isn't that it wasn't a good story. The book just gets sooo much into his childhood and when he comes home and just.... it was too much IMO.

I just read The Nightingale. It was really good!! Now I've got a bunch to read from the library
The Rosie Effect
Night Road
before I Go
And a couple others I forget!
The best books I've read lately (maybe ever?!) were The husbands Secret (so good!) and What Alice Forgot (even better!) I couldn't put them down and still think about them!

@Mrs. Champagne: did you read Big Little Lies?! That was also great. That was my first Moriarty book and I just finished What Alice Forgot!
nectarine / 2028 posts
@Mrs. Champagne: great taste-I read everything Lianne Moriarty wrote (Husband's Secret, Last Anniversary, What Alice Forgot, etc.) while I was nursing my son around-the-clock as a newborn. I also loved the Rosie Project and Effect!
@knittylady: Just read The Luckiest Girl Alive and Girl on the Train. Didn't much care for the former, and liked the latter but wasn't as obsessed with it as many others seem to be. Did you read Jodi Picoult's newest book, Leaving Time? Loved it. I'm waiting on a few digital library loans, one of which is Go Set a Watchman. Happy Reading!

@hellobeeboston: Enjoy working your way through the rest of Moriarty's books!! She's great!@rosegold: I've always loved Bill Bryson-I read In a Sunburned Country before I went to Australia and loved learning Aussie history with great humor mixed in.
@Mrs.Bee: there's a sequel to The Rosie Project that came out in December! I think you'd like:).

I read the Orphan Train, I think I liked it, lol, but had to look it up to remember what it was about so must not have been that good!
Have you read The Girl on the Train? If you like murder mysteries you'll like that one. Similar style to Gone Girl. I finished that one last week.
The Martian I read recently as well, couldn't put it down!
Currently reading Graceling, but just started so no opinions yet.

I'm about 100 pages into The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton. It's slow but intriguing. I haven't had a lot of time to just sit down and get into the story yet.

Just finished After Birth, really interesting, weird, and resonating. It's about women and relationships after having a baby.

Oh I liked Orphan Train (though rather sad)... hubs just gave me "Go Set a Watchman" by Harper Lee for me to start this weekend. I love anything Denis Lehane (esp the Kenzie & Gennaro series) and James Rollins (Sigma Series) They're fun reads with great characters.

I'm reading A Little Life, which I really love. I'm also finishing H is for Hawk, which is good but not my favorite - a little bird-heavy/navel-gazy for my taste.

I didn't like Orphan Train either! I'm reading All the Light We Cannot See.
pomegranate / 3604 posts
Just finished reading A Court of Thorn & Roses - Sarah J Maas, Invasion of the Tearling - Erika Johansen & am currently reading Cruel Beauty - Rosamund Hodge.
July wasn't much better - I only read Mr. Penumbra's 24 hour bookstore, Undertow, End of Days & The Mermaid's Sister.
It's criminal how little I'm reading these days

Recently read "All The Light We Cannot See" by Anthony Doerr and "Everything I Never Told You" by Celeste Ng. Both were absolutely captivating!
Also just read "I Remember Nothing" by Nora Ephron for a lighter, quicker collection of essays. Definitely been on a summer reading binge.

@Mae: I am obsessed with WW2 historical fiction novels. I have two books I just got from the library this week that I'll be reading; All the light we cannot see and Girl at war. I really liked the book thief as well.
Also reading Burn the fat, feed the muscle. Ha.
@autumnlove: loved that one so I got the sequel- but it's moving really slow.
