I'm finally getting around to Mr. Penumbra (two months after the book club month, whoops), and I love it! I also have Dan Brown's Inferno on my list, as well as the Stockholm Octavo.

Gone Girl and Cinderella ate My Daughter. But I'm too tired at night to read daily, so it'll take forever to determine how good they are.

I just finished the Light Between the Oceans because both my book clubs had this month. It was great. Next up are #19 & #20 in the Stephanie Plum series.

I'm currently reading Mission Flats. I'm not that far into it, but it's interesting so far. I just finished reading Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan and that was entertaining and a light, easy read.

@Mrs. High Heels: you're definitely on the best book so far. #4 was torture for me to get through!
Have you read other Khaled Hosseini books? If so, is And the Mountains Echoed as good?

@brady80: How are you liking it? I keep seeing it on people's lists but I read the first couple of pages and felt "meh" about it.

I like it. I agree that it didn't hook me in the first few pages but I'm halfway through and I really like it

@brady80 the goldfinch was so good! i am obsessed.
currently, i am re-reading the "tales of the city" series, because a new one comes out on tuesday.

@NurseMommy: #1 was sooo good, #2 was torture to get through (it took me over a year to read!), #3 is the best so far!! And I heard #4 was hard to get through too… =/ But I'm determined to finish the series this year!
I've read all of Khaled Hosseini's books, and Kite Runner is still my favorite (it's actually my favorite book of all time so it's hard to compete with that), followed by A Thousand Splendid Suns. This one has a slightly different format - every chapter is the perspective of a different character, and though it's not quite as strong as the other two books I still loved it. I think his writing is so beautiful and I couldn't put it down. He's my favorite author.

Star Wars- Legacy of the Force- Exile, by Aaron Allston. I have a Star Wars problem.

@Mrs. High Heels: thanks! I really want to read that book. Loved his other two!

I recently reread Divergent and Insurgent and loved them all over again. Then I read Allegiant and was left in a fit of rage for days! (Okay, rage may be a little dramatic, but I was pissed.)
I started Matched by Ally Condie but haven't had much time to read it.

Dark places. I loved Gone Girl so I figured I would probably like this one too.

Re-reading The Historian and listening to The Serpent's Tale during my commute.

I love these book posts!
I just finished Sharp Objects and am about to start Dark Places. @bushelandapeck: How do you like DP so far?
@Sweet T: Is Allegiant even worth reading? I really enjoyed Divergent and started reading Insurgent, but I lost enthusiasm for it a bit after hearing everyone on the boards get mad about Allegiant (I also got distracted by my newborn )
@yellowbird: I need to do this too! I was mad at myself that I didn't reread Catching Fire before seeing the movie.

I'm reading a book DH got me for Christmas - I think it's called Wallbanger. About a girl who has a manwhore for an apartment neighbor, eventually falls for him, etc.

I'm still reading Game of Thrones book 1. I have maybe 100 pages left, but I just haven't been able to get back into it since I stopped reading it a few months ago! Must finish so I can move onto the next....

@brady80: that's next on my list.
I'm still working my way through Book Thief, but I'm almost done. I'm really liking it.

@NurseMommy: @Mrs. High Heels: @PermaStudent: What is The Game of Thrones even about? I'm not up to date on these things...I hear a lot about it, but never knew if it was something that would interest me.
pomelo / 5720 posts
@Brassgiraffe: so far I really like it. I read Sharp objects too. The books are pretty disturbing but so interesting!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@Bao: I think it's considered the Fantasy genre.
Taken from wikipedia: "Set in the fictional Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, the series chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among the realm's noble families for control of the Iron Throne."
It's usually not the type of book that interests me either, but it is so good! The HBO series is super popular too.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@mediagirl: me too?.. as in, he's your favorite author too??? or, you're reading game of thrones book #3 too?
grapefruit / 4089 posts
@Bao: Also from Wikipedia... "The reader may not safely presume that a favorite prominent character will prevail, or even survive. Violence, sexuality and moral ambiguity frequently arise among a set of over a thousand named characters."
Truth!! Haha
ETA: I would not say it is an easy read; complex story lines, a multitude of characters, and even the language takes a while to get used to.
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
@Dagny: I loved that book!
@Brassgiraffe: I may have been better off not reading Allegiant. Now I'm just grumpy with Veronica Roth
I'm buying Bossypants and Lets Pretend This Never Happened. Can't wait to read them on vacation.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: wait. Yes. I'm reading book 3, as well. Don't mind me, I skim....
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@redsmarties: if you want the paper copy of let's pretend, I'll mail it to you. When do you need it by?
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
@PermaStudent: See I get overwhelmed if I get confused then don't want to read it. haha!
grapefruit / 4089 posts
@Bao: I normally fly through books, but this one is taking me a looong time to get through, and I'm only on book 1! I'm sure there are better options out there for you I'm loving the recommendations on this thread so far.
