Antique stores by far! I went to a local chain to buy our bed frame, mattress, and other stuff that I did want new, though.

The hubby, amazingly, had a bunch of nice furniture so when we combined households, we kept all his stuff. We've only bought a couple bookcases and decorative pieces at Ikea. Haven't upgraded or replaced anything yet. His stuff was originally from Baskett (i think that's the name), Rooms To Go, and Eurway.

Most of our stuff is from Crate and Barrel, I love them. Some Pottery Barn too.

Another vote for antique stores here! Unique pieces, excellent construction, and good prices (especially if you're willing to put in a bit of elbow grease to fix finishes and the like).

Antique stores. We have a few here that refurbish furniture. There's also a store that upcycles things to make furniture that I love, but sadly can't afford.
