If you were to pick a handful of staple pieces that every working or professional woman should have, what would they be?
For starters on bottoms I think these three pieces are pretty standard. I also would love to throw in a khaki/brown pencil skirt but I'm not loving the one I have from BR.

Work clothes are really different for me since I'm a teacher/librarian. Like, I *do* wear all of the above--black pants and skirts, but I can also wear any and all color and prints and more like business casual stuff--like corduroy pants, boyfriend sweaters, denim skirts. I wear stuff like this with a cardigan of some type almost every day. But less cute lately--like uglier, older, baggier clothes. haha

I have three different pairs of these Express Editor pants that I wear almost every day.
My other staples are pencil skirt, blazer, blouses and button-ups, vests

Almost every day I have on an entirely loft outfit. I wear the old Loft suits (before they stopped making them 
) and a dressy top. I always pair it with Tory Burch reva flats.

Pretty much the same. I keep looking for a pair of straight/skinny black pants but can't seem to find any that I like. I wear mostly slacks and sweaters or shell tanks with cardigans. Now that it's warming up, I'm able to break out some dresses, which I love.

I wear business casual for work and my staples are pretty much what you have listed above in different colours and different lengths. I also have a lot of blazers and cardigans, which I accessorize with scarfs and different shirts in the winter. In the summer (we don't really have spring and fall) I wear a lot more skirts and dresses.

I have a formula for my outfits, it's what works on my body and it pretty much guarantees whatever I have will go together.
My staples for summer include printed crop pants, blazers and ponte knit tops or a printed dress with a blazer over it.
Today I have on a printed blue, white and black dress, a leather obi belt and a blue blazer.
Yesterday I had on an ivory ponte dress with black detail down the front center, with a black blazer over it.
Earlier in the week I had on a pair of black and beige printed crop pants, a melon colored ponte tank and a black blazer. On that day I had on sandals, but my feet were freezing.

A basic black shift-like dress is one of my go-to's. I wear it alone, with a cardigan, blazer or with a button down shirt under it. Can also wear heels or boots with tights when it's cold, etc.

@LMOG47: I got one of these for pregnancy and I'm loving it. Especially with a bright orange cardigan thing I have.
I would love to see specific examples on staple tops. I always have a hard time finding things that look ok with a cardigan or a blazer or just by themselves.

For tops that go under blazers or cardigans, I usually either have on a printed tank or a solid ponte knit shell. I get them at Banana Republic or at Khols (Dana Buchman).

I shop mainly at NY&Co because it's affordable, the clothes (I think) are cute and appropriate. These are two shirts I have very similar styles of. Paired with slacks and heels.

Basic black shift dress. I have one that is super slimming (a lot like the one posted above, but with pockets) and I wear it with:
-A tailored vest
-A fitted blazer
-A boyfriend blazer
-A cardigan
-A lace duster
It is SO versatile!
My next staples would probably be a sassy but comfortable pair of pointy-toed pumps with an ankle strap and cute black flats for when I am feeling lazy.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: what's a lace duster?! In my head I immediately went naughty but since it's for work and I'm assuming you aren't running red light specials, I think I need an explanation

@babyjmama: It is like a long lace cardigan. It is pretty funky....mine is long and has fringe at the bottom. It is short sleeved... I will see if I can find a pic! It doesn't work for the office, but it is cute for a dinner out.
