My DH needs a new work bag and hinted that’s what he would like for his upcoming birthday, and I need some inspiration! I think messenger style is better (and what he currently has), but a nicer backpack could work if it’s pickpocket proof (he takes mass transit). Definitely no briefcases, but it needs to be somewhat professional looking.

I gave this one to my husband for Christmas this past year when he desperately needed a new bag. He loves it and uses it daily. This one is black...the one he has is brown.

What is he carrying in his bag? Lunch, laptop, files? Does he go through security? If so, what does he have to remove from his bag?

He alternates between backpack and leather messenger bag. He usually carries around a laptop and some books; not a lot of walking.

For our anniversary I got my husband a Briggs and Riley backpack for work. It’s way easier on him when he travels, and I’ve found backpacks more common professionally especially in metro areas. Everything we have bought/ owned from B&R has been well designed and made and they retain a lifetime warranty if anything breaks. He has really liked it!

We have this one and I realize it's expensive, but they literally last forever. There is also a canvas version of this as well. They are locally (USA) made and the craftsmanship is amazing.

Northface backpack in all black. He used to use a J Crew Abingdon canvas messenger, and then some internet-only brand nylon quilted messenger bag, which definitely looked nicer, but they were too heavy. He doesn't wear a suit to work (tech bro
) so the backpack looks totally fine for his public transportation commute.

Tumi messenger briefcase...he had a tan canvas one prior to that but needed something more boring for going in to court...

@Pollywog: yeah, laptop and some tech gadgets. No lunch. He does go through security everyday, but I don’t think he has to take everything out like at the airport.
@Alexandra603: that’s what he currently has! It’s getting pretty beat up though, and his is less professional looking since it’s fairly colorful. Maybe I’ll look into the more neutral/dark ones.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I love the look of all these leather messengers, but we live in a super humid country with a rainy season, so I’ll probably go with nylon or waxed canvas in a similar style. Also, my DH travels quite a lot for work in other hot SE Asian countries, so it really has to be weatherproof.

Also, if it helps, my husband’s style is definitely techno geek, like suit pants and dress shirts with sneakers. No ties, and the full suit only for meetings/conferences.
