We've attended a lot in recent weeks, so I decided to write a post about it! I usually buy a book and a toy.
What did you buy as a gift for some recent children's parties, and how old were they?

Our most recent birthday party was for a 2 year old, his mom said that he was getting into coloring so we bought a bunch of coloring books, a big pack of crayons, and then one of those special crayons/books for toddlers that colors in rainbows.
We just attended almost a whole month of birthday parties every weekend, I'm glad it is dying down! Our next, and last for the year, is on the 30th.

We had a tough party recently. It was a first birthday party for the second son. So I knew they had everything already. We weren't really close with them so I didn't want to spend a ton on something personalized (an easy go to gift for the second child) so I went for the book/toy route.
I got a set of Mickey Mouse books (they just went to Disney) and a shape sorter/counter (those pieces get lost easily so I figured a new one wouldn't hurt).

We got our nephew a Star Wars edition of the board game, 'Trouble', along with a small Lego set. He turned seven.

@MamaBehr: I love craft supplies as gifts. Its a great way to keep the child active and it doesn't add to the clutter of one more toy I have to store/clean up.

Good friends of ours had us over for their little guys 1st birthday and we actually just brought him a cheque for his education fund. They have tons and tons of toys from very generous grandparents and his parents were thrilled with it.

The last one was for a 5 year old boy obsessed with trains. My husband is a train engineer so he ordered a hat and overalls from the company website, he found a wooden train whistle, and then gave him a set of spare track keys and an old pocket watch. I was super impressed, I'm not that clever!
The one before that was a 1 year old girl, I got her a Melissa & Doug puzzle shelf with 3 puzzles.

1st birthday. We bought him a Makka Pakka toy.
If you don't know who Makka Pakka is, he's this little furry guy with little turds on his head, who says his own name a lot, sleeps in a cave cuddling a rock and has dreadful OCD.

A red panda hand puppet/stuffed animal for a one-year-old. I wanted something she wouldn't grow out of too quickly.
