My mil will be having surgery soon. I'm planning on making her chicken soup.

Food is always good. Also something to help pass the time, like a puzzle book or gossip magazines if she is into it.

I used to make a care package for DH when we were dating and friends in college...
A mini OJ, Vitamin C, Tea, Magazine, Soup, and a Hang out with me when you're better card!

Apparently, here in the UK, bringing someone grapes is a thing. We were watching a show the other night and a character made reference to it and I was so confused until DH explained. Weird, huh?

Depends on what they're sick with/recovering from. I try to tailor it to what I think will help them the most. If it's something like a stomach bug I would take sprite/7up, this nectar stuff my in-laws swear by, and something mild to eat like crackers, toast, or soup. If it's surgery they're recovering from and they're not on a restricted diet I would take some kind of comfort food like mac and cheese and a dessert.
