@Andrea: I couldn't tell you, I really have no idea. Sounds like it might be called that in the UK? Maybe that's where I heard it, on all the British TV I watched while living abroad?

Another Canadian here, and yes, of course, it's Kraft Dinner! If I were making it from scratch (very rarely!) it would be macaroni and cheese.

@mediagirl: Diarrhea! Ha ... I'm gluten intolerant, and can't eat dairy ... Yeah, that's like death in a box for me. BUT, if I'm making it from scratch, I'd say "Mac & Cheese" ...

Mac and cheese. I ate at least a full box a day the last week or two of my pregnancy. I like it most when I'm sick. I wish I had some now.
When it's homemade and not boxed I call the dish macaroni and cheese.

That's Kraft Dinner or KD.
Mac N Cheese is the homemade stuff.
I was just trying to figure out why it's called that here. My guess was something about our food regulations for what can be referred to as "cheese", since Kraft's "American cheese" is also called "Kraft Singles" but apparently just a marketing decision. And according to wikipedia it's the single most popular grocery item in our country, and of the 7 million boxes sold worldwide per year, Canadians consume 1.7 million of them.

Kraft dinner!
And until recently I didn't really understand what American cheese was -- I thought it was some kind of real cheddar:). I've always called it processed cheese, or Kraft singles.
Canadian here!:)
