So, I've been blogging for a while now and have a pretty good following. One of the downsides is those mean old "anonymous" comments that I get from time to time.
I always told myself that I wanted it to be as easy to comment as possible, so I'd leave anonymous commenting ability active unless they became foul or mean. It's fine for people to express different views.
Well today, I blogged about feeling bummed that I'm not having a baby shower. Good ole "Anonymous" responded "No one gives a crap about your baby". What the hell?
What is his/her problem?! I just don't understand the troll mindset I guess. It's been my policy to mostly ignore these comments, but friends have encouraged me to fight back. I sort of think that would just give them what they want.
What do you/would you do?

I just delete them and continue on. It hurts my feelings and bothers me for days but I know that if I fight back it'll just stir more mean comments. You're so much better than those anonymous haters.

I'm still working on building up a following, so I haven't had any mean comments yet. But, I agree it's best to just ignore them. It sucks that some people have nothing better to do than try to make others feel like crap.

Delete the comment and ignore them. The sickos thrive of your anger. Would you reconsider letting people comment anonymously? Maybe it would stop some of them. I would also look into IP moderation, if possible, like Mr. Bee suggested.

I've never gotten a rude comment, but you can't let it get to you.
On a lighter note, I'm pretty sure my anonymous commenter is actually DH's young second cousin, hahaha. She's like 13 and all of the anonymous comments on my blog STRONGLY remind me of her facebook updates. It's amusing to me...

A troll wants you to get upset, otherwise they wouldn't say anything. Delete and move on, it's probably a 14 year old avoiding homework.

I wouldn't even bother getting into a heated exchange with some miserable person. I think it's easier to ignore an anonymous internet jerk than someone who might actually matter in your "real" life. I kinda try to remember that everyone is fighting their own battle. Being an a*s to you might have made their day. Sad really, but just let them have it! Delete the comment and be glad you have a NICE following

It depends on how "mean" the comments are. If the comments are not using foul language or derogatory comments and aren't attacking you directly or other commenters I would just leave them up there but not respond to them.

If they are spending their time anonymously commenting on your blog and saying hurtful things do you really want to get down on that level? ;o\ It's hurtful but it's also cowardly on their part. Delete, chin up, move on! People care about you and your baby =)

Thanks for the support, ladies. You definitely helped me strengthen my resolve to maintain my current course. (I'll just vent to my husband when Anon pisses me off.) I try to take it as a compliment that they care enough to keep coming back and commenting, regardless of of what they say.
I'm going to put a "commenting policy" up, as one of the anti-circumcision campaigners that bombed me earlier this week was dropping quite a few f-bombs. Then I'll feel more comfortable deleting comments that don't follow the rules -
Unfortunately it is something that you open yourself up to when you blog publicly. I think that is a reason I have kept mine largely private.
If it is someone being a troll just to be nasty, delete away- there are plenty of people out there who just want attention or to make others unhappy like them. If it is someone being critical or concerned about your choices as a parent, then it gets into a gray area.

Is it possible to disable anonymous commenting? I am not a blog expert by any means, but some of the fashion blogs I read only allow comments with an email address or registering.
