I totally put little kids in their place if their parents aren't around and they do something naughty.

I probably shouldn't, but whatevs. Lol

Eta: it also depends on the age though... I deal with a lot of older kids because of our older boys.

For me, it depends on whether the children are close in age...if they are, I leave them to work it out on their own. If it is clearly a case of an older child bullying or rough-housing, then I step in.

3 and 11 months is a big age difference! I don't know what I'd do if that was DD. But in my eyes, that was outright bullying (because of the age difference).

@SleepyMonkey: I would've done the same thing. That's a big age difference. If they had been the same age, I would be less inclined to intervene.

I always say, "please be gentle" even if they are close in age...to and older toddler like a 3 year-old, I would tell them it wasn't nice and to play carefully with babies.

I will usually say something in a kind voice about being gentle, if it happens again and there still isn't a parent I will either use a stern tone and guide the child I am watching away or I will find the parent. Thankfully, it is rare that there isn't a parent around at the park we go to most frequently.

I have and do say something, especially when kids are visibly older. Problem here is that I don't speak the local language, so kids aren't always going to understand me. But I still say something. I think it draws attention to the fact that they know and I know they are being naughty, even if they don't understand what I say. In my experience, the kids have always stopped whatever it is they were doing.
