I eat them. What's this leftover cake you speak of?
Just kidding. Sort of. I usually refrigerate them if they'll be around more than a day or so.

i refrigerate them and when i'm ready to eat it again slice and leave it so it can warm up to room temp and devour.
If the cake has be sliced before I make sure to have the plastic wrap cover the sliced area so it doesnt get hard/stale

I WANT CAKE!

what are leftovers?
ultimately it depends on what the frosting is made of, but usually the fridge.

I leave it in the fridge and usually bring it to work the next day. Cake goes bad in my household.

I put it in the fridge, but like to leave it out for a little before I eat it again so that it goes to room temp.

Room temperature, covered with saran wrap (using the toothpick method to preserve the frosting) or covering with a bowl. Keeping in the regrigerator dries it out,

Room temperature. Unless I'm saving it for a long time, and then I freeze it

@lemondrop: cream cheese, milk, powdered sugar! DH says I will ruin the cake by putting it in the fridge....won't the icing go bad?

Leave it out, covered. I hate how cake gets soggy in the fridge.

I have a glass cake dish and I never put it in the freezer. I just leave it in the covered cake dish on the counter.

Room temp if it's just going to be a day or two. Freeze if longer. Never the fridge, except for a a couple cakes that's frosting calls for it.

Room temp in a cake saver or into the freezer. In my experience putting them in the fridge dries them out.

@Baby Boy Mom: @looch: haha, I found one in a box of dusty kitchen handmedowns from MIL. Washed it off...bam!

I only put cake in the fridge if it's a dairy based frosting. Otherwise it stays on the counter covered by a tea towel.

I don't like the taste of them from the fridge, but honestly, leaving it out on the counter means i'm going to eat it all within 2 hours.

Depends on what kind of cake -- e.g. cream cheese frosting needs to be refrigerated. Otherwise keep it on the counter under a cake dome. Mmm I need to go get some cake now. And they never really last more than a couple days since we eat them

@LMOG47: LOL!!! Seriously right!!
I put mine in the fridge. I like it chilled!

I really want to go out and pick up a cake and eat the whole thing right now.

Oh gosh. I may go home and make cake...
I refrigerate with plastic wrap covering it. I eat cake in a bowl with milk so the frosting getting stiff doesn't bother me!

Yeah, I bought cake while at the grocery store today.
Thanks, it WAS good. Still don't know how you have any left to keep
With the frosting, I just consider how much preservatives it has in it- canned probably has a ton, so I feel better leaving it out, homemade by someone with skill or cream cheese I definitely feel better refrigerating then bringing it out to warm up a bit.
