If you're not supposed to use bumpers in the crib, what do you do with the ones that come with bedding sets? I hate the thought of paying all that money for a set that includes them, and then just throwing them out or putting them in the closet! What did you do with yours?

Hold onto it, because you might end up using it. We waited until DS could fully roll over and then used them.
I know it's not for everyone, but I'd hold off on getting rid of them, just in case.

i plan on keeping mine "just in case" like @looch said... and i've seen some pinterest projects that incorporates these for other things in the nursery!

@looch: So you WERE able to use them at some point? That would make me feel a lot better about spending so much on bedding!

Yup, I didn't use it until we had success rolling back and forth. My son is a thrasher, so I prefer to have it on for him, he's 18 months now.

We didn't buy a bedding set... just a few fitted sheets.

They weren't included on our set and I didn't buy them (wasn't worth $70 in my eyes!) I did register for a breathable bumper in case we need it.

We originally didn't buy a bedding set, just sheets and breathable bumpers. But we got a set on clearance, which I'm saving for when he convert his bed to a toddler bed and decorate his big boy room. Then I'll use the back bumper to line the sides and back walls of his crib to make the bed look nice.

@mrs. wagon: Ooh that is a good idea. I'm torn now between getting a set with them and saving them for later or buying a (much less expensive!) set without them. Hmm Hmm Hmm...

@hilsy85: I feel your pain. I'm SO picky when it comes to bedding. We actually have four or five sets of bedding for our own bed. That's why I stayed simple with the baby bedding and waited to pick the toddler bedding. I actually bought two sets on crazy clearance at Target when I bumped into them by accident (must have been returns) and I love them both!! But I'm going to go with one of them for the big boy room because it matches the theme we've decided on. The theme is baseball and the bedding is red, blue (denim), and cream and is a star theme. The other one is the most adorable, preppy white bedding with navy and green, with little embroidered crocodiles. It pains me not to use it, but I think it's a little too boyish for lil miss wagon!!!

@hilsy85: what about looking on easy? I know most sellers do custom bedding sets and I'm sure you could find what you like and ask to leave the bumper out.
Or else I've seen some clever repurposing of the bumpers. Valances, teething rail guard, cloth blocks, patchwork baby blanket etc.
I mean honestly all you really need if you don't use a bumper is a sheet, and maybe a crib skirt for looks or hiding storage. You can't use a comforter til they're almost out of a crib anyway!

We have ours in the crib for now (I'm 37 1/2 weeks) for decoration, and then we'll keep them in there while the baby is in the co-sleeper in our room. Once the baby gets to sleep in the crib, we'll take them out until he/she can roll over, and then we'll put them back in.

I didnt buy a bed set, I just bought crib sheets.

I know this sounds so bad but I plan on using mine.....But in my defense LO isn't even going into the crib until much later and until he can roll over and stuff on his own....but that's for lots of reasons.
I have babysat for MANY kids who had crib bumpers and we always had them for our little brothers growing up.
I think you just need to wait until baby isn't an immobile lump anymore:))
Also you could use those positioners that hold baby at the center of the bed and that'll solve the problem.
*But I think you can still use them for pictures when you do nursery pics and the weeks before LO's arrival when your showing off the nursery to family & friends. -
@Coco Bee: I was thinking about that earlier today. I think I'll have to spend a few hours browsing (and will have the time now that I'm unemployed
). @TurtleDoves: Hmm good point...the crib does look SO much cuter with them in there and I would love to have pictures when we get our newborn session done. I've also heard that you're apparently not supposed to use those positioners anymore either tho--nothing in the bed except the baby and the crib sheet!

I use mine.
My LO is so young still she can't move at all in her sleep and we put her down smack dab in the middle of the crib, I don't see the bumpers being a hazard (they are also very thin).
I will reevaluate once she starts becoming a bit more mobile.
Even then, I might end up still wanting to use them. My friend has to use her bumpers because her LO always used to get her arms and legs caught in the crib slats.

I've seen them used as a crib "skirt." I think it can look really nice depending on the pattern.

I've seen people make pillows out of them or save them for when LO is older
