I was thinking I don't know nearly as much as you! I seriously need to read up bf Lo gets here.

Meh, LATCH isnt any safer than installing with a belt, just easier. I actually find that our seat has a better, snugger install using the belt.

I know what I need to know, how to install our seat, how the chest clip should lay, what age ranges are recommended for RF vs FF, not to put a puffy coat on her, etc. I dont find the need to be an authority on all things carseat. Thats what I have HB for. Lol

@runsyellowlites: Yeah, NO longer recommended. I thought I remembered reading that the Highway Safety Administration or something like no longer recommended using the LATCH system.

I'm going to google to find the article, but I think the new recs just came out last year, so unless your car is newer than that, I would assume it would still recommend the LATCH in the manual.

Oh, ok- it's if the combined weight of the child and the seat exceed 65 lbs.

@runsyellowlites: Ugh, now you have me thinking about it. Guess I should do some research and make sure the booster I was planning to get will fit between the two convertibles.

@runsyellowlites: This mostly bugs me because I want to be able to buy my Suburban NOW and not have to be thinking about fitting all the seats into Jeep. Lol, patience is not among my finer qualities.

@rachiecakes: I think you're only supposed to use one or the other because the frames aren't designed to take that much stress in a crash. Or rather, stress in both places (latch and seatbelt)

We took a carseat safety class (free) through our county and they helped install J's seat! It was pretty cool. Like Rachiecakes - I didn't know you couldn't use both seatbelt and latch - seems it might be safer. I hadn't ever done that though.

@FarmWifeGina: I've never heard that about the weight... I was going to say I did the latch system with my nanny kids all the time! but I was thinking even 6-8 year olds are generally less than 65 lbs (my 8 year old sister is definitely less than 50 lbs).

I know a lot about carseat safety. That thread with the carseat pics gives me the willies from all the mistakes I see. :'(

@rachiecakes: I looked in our manual and I didn't see it if it was there. I am just glad we got it looked at and corrected before she got here.

I don't know a lot about carseat safety. We don't drive and I can count on both hands how many times LO has been in cars. We know how to put her seat in with the seat belt and that she needs to be rear facing, but that's about it.

I think I would know more about it if we drove more.

I know that the safest seat is the one that installs securely in your vehicle and fits your child correctly! And yeah, you shouldn't use the seatbelt and latch together and neither is safer than the other.
