I've always loved how this name sounds (pronounced SESS-i-lee), but am not crazy about how it looks. What do you think?

It's alright - my first association with it is Cecily Strong from SNL (which isn't a bad thing).

I used to have a coworker with that name. I always thought it was a pretty name.

I like it but people will pronounce it like Sicily. I know a Cecily and everyone calls her CeCe, which i think is cute. I think I prefer Cecile or Cecilia just because the pronunciation seems easier for people.

I love it. It makes me think of Oscar Wilde's Cecily Cardew, and I love that play/movie. I also loved Cecilia (which DH far preferred), and we went with that for the stronger saint connection and DH's preference, but I call her Cecily at home a fair amount. Her sister and other kiddos call her CC.

I think it all depends on the last name. If last name ends in an EE sound, I think the name sounds too busy. A consonant ending it sounds great.

Whenever I hear it I think of the tv show avonlea. I think that was the oldest daughters name?

I think it's super cute! Although, I did pronounce is siss-a-Lee.

It's just not really obvious how it should be pronounced or spelled and I wouldn't want to go my entire life explaining both. Cecilia of Sicily.

@rattles: Yes, The Importance of Being Earnest was my introduction to the name! I agree with you and @sera_87: @JerricaBenton: @Mrs. Pen: and @PrincessBaby: that the pronunciation and spelling are not very intuitive. I'm not a huge fan of Cecilia, but it could grow on me...
@Pancakes: I love your taste! :o)
@Ms. RV: That's a good point! Luckily our last name rhymes with 'Hoffman' so I think they go well with each other.
@Miss Ariel: Ah, I've never seen that show!
Thank you so much for your thoughts, everyone!

I'm really surprised so many people aren't sure how to pronounce or spell it!

@hony bologna: one of my coworkers just named his daughter Cecily Grace and I thought it was such a good name!

@rattles: Same here! I thought it was kind of funny when the OP explained pronunciation. I knew exactly how it should be pronounced!

@rattles: @hony bologna: So, when we named our DD I never imagined that so many people would mispronounce it. I mean, really, I couldn't even imagine another way that it would be pronounced! But people do misread it as "Cecile" or "Sicely/Cicely." It's mostly at the doctor's office, or whatever, so it's not a huge deal to me and I don't regret her name choice at all. And people have also mispronounced my other DD's name (Louis@), so I feel like that can happen to any name!

@Pancakes: That's good to know, thank you! That's incredible about your other daughter's name, so I'm sure you're right - I have a unique/'ethnic' name that I've had to repeat and respell my entire life (it never really bothered me either), but it sounds like that experience is way more common than I'd thought!

@PrincessBaby: This. I know a Cecily, and everyone always says Sicily. She gives a made up name when we go out to eat for them to call out orders just to avoid the headache.

I like it fine but it wouldn't make my personal list. Different strokes, though!
