@loki: I think Gemma is adorable. I also don't watch SOA. If you want to use a family name as the middle name, what about doing two middle names, like Gemma Elizabeth Rose? That way everyone wins.

@avivoca: we might do a second middle name but if we do i want it to be japanese. DH's side is japanese and we are currently fighting about it because i think it's important to include, he thinks two middle names is ridiculous and that her japanese last name is enough! haha. it is 4 syllables and pretty complicated. and i still looooove rose as a first name

Oh me me!!! Although my name is spelt Jemma. Love my name, never really had it confused with Jenna but I live in Australia so it isn't a totally unheard of name, although having it begins with a "j" is sort of unusual... I've only met one other Jemma. So I say go for it! Although I may be bias haha

@loki: i think the name is cute! But i wanted to add about the two middle names:
i kept my name when we got married and i wanted to give it to LO but also wanted to give her a "first name" middle name.
So we did:
First Middle MyMaiden Last
on the birth certificate
We primarily call her First Middle Last but it was important to me to put it on there. I don't know if that will help you convince DH but it seems like a nice thought to include a name from his background. -
I LOVE it! I've mentioned it to DH a few times, but he can't seem to ever get it right, but he's terrible with names.

I like Gemma a lot. Dont let TV shows deter you, we just had a Quinn and evidently there are some negative associations on some shows with that name. Oh well, I still love it! And would you guys consider using two middle names? Gemma Elizabeth Rose? Our DD has two middle names because we couldn't decide

@MamaCate: @Mrs.Panda: i wouldn't be opposed to two middle names but if we do it, i really want to include a japanese name. my DH is very against two middle names because he wants to keep the name simple for her. i kind of have two middle names (my first name is actually hyphenated and then i have my mom's maiden name as a middle name). so i know what he means about it sometimes complicating thing! and i just reeeeeally love Rose as a first name, not sure I'd be willing to use it as a middle name! If we don't use it this time I'd like to save it for a future daughter (which is crazy, i know).
Thanks for weighing in, everyone. I told DH about everyone's love for Gemma and he was pumped. I'll probably do a similar post in a few days/weeks about Willa & Rose because I can't stop thinking about them!
