We use a diaper genie.

Honestly we just save every plastic bag we get and take them to the trash maybe once a day. We've never had an issue with smell or build up.:)

We use the Munchkin/Arm and Hammer diaper pail.

@Foodnerd81: yeah she's 7 mo and we haven't had any issues so far. I know a lot of people like the pails but I just don't like the fact of dirty diapers lingering around for so long. Just my personal preference

DS is 9 months and we've been fine using a regular trash can with a lid. We have a simple human one but only because I wanted something really small and narrow. Oh and it fits grocery bags perfectly and it has these notches at the ends that you loop the grocery bag over so when it's empty and you throw something in there, the bag doesn't collapse inside the trash can. Now that he's on more solids and his poops stink, we just throw out poopy diapers right away.

We have a simplehuman trash can with a step lid, and it's working great. We have a smaller one and we line it with grocery bags and empty it every 2-3 days. So far, so good!

We're registered for the diaper dekkor, but I think I might just go to bed bath & beyond and buy a nice simplehuman wastebasket instead. I don't really understand the difference other than the lid closing differently and I want it to look nice since everything will be out in the open.

@Foodnerd81: I won't admit any bad behavior by my pugs... lol. Lets just say they eat enough of each others' #2's (gross I know- puppy mill pugs) so I worry!!!!

So I was not a diaper genie fan pre-baby but DH wanted one because all the parents he spoke to raved about it. I said OK, whatever, only thing he asked for on the registry.

LOVE the thing. Bags aren't terribly expensive via S&S and I even did a garbage bag hack once and it stunk up her room. With the bags and the genie I've never had a stink issue and her poops S T I N K.

Is it absolutely necessary? Of course not, nothing else besides a basic crib and safe car seat is absolutely necessary with a baby! But it sure is nice!

We use the diaper genie as well. I wasn't going to register for one, but DH insisted he wanted one. I love it! We did find that the generic target refills didn't contain the stink as well. So now I do subscribe and save on amazon for the refills

@regberadaisy: Maybe it's just my overly sensitive pregnant lady nose? Haha but even DH said he could smell it.

We use the Ubbi like @MrsLipGloss:, and I think it's really good. Totally contains the smell (even now that LO is eating solids), plus you can use any trash bags with it, so once you buy it, you're done with the expense. And it's a very slim profile, which was important for us too (limited space in his last nursery).
