We're going to sign our daughter up for gymnastics and am just curious what everyone sends their kids to class in. Shorts and tee shirt? Leotard? Something else?

Leotards like this. I think it's technically called a biketard.

we did a leotard and biker shorts (we bought a couple different leotards and just did black biker shorts to wear with them all.)

Same as Lawbee11. She likes the shorts one the best (but has had regular leotards in the past and one from her showcase). She's on her 3rd level class now and only kids in the parent/kid class wouldn't wear and everyone wears some kind of leotard.

@LuLu Mom: @Smurfette: can they just wear leotards without shorts? I'm thinking of my picky dresser. She likes bathing suits so I think a regular leotard would be ok...

@mediagirl: Yep! Most wear a regular leotard (panties showing a little on the sides even).

All the kids in DD's class basically wore leggings with shirts. Our gymnastics class is at the town rec center though, not a real gym. It was for kids age 2-4. I only ever saw one child wearing a leotard.
I was a gymnast growing up and I remember most kids started wearing leotards around school age.

Leotard, leotard with gymnastics shorts, or biketard depending on her mood that day. Just about all the girls wear a variation of that and the few boys wear athletic pants or shorts and tee.

She wore a pink ballet type leotard all year (started just after she turned 3). I mostly saw kids in gymnastics leotards (sleeveless or short sleeves) or in the one piece biketard(?) that lawbee posted- no undies showing with those ones.
We had to buy the showcase leotard this spring so she will wear that all next year. No shorts- I'm sure she would have fought me on that anyway.

She wears a leotard. One or two kids have the biketards, but most wear a regular leotard, no undies.

activewear leggings and a matching tank (like something you would get in the activewear section of Old Navy, for example).

Last year, my 1.5 and 3.5 year old wore cotton pants and t-shirts.

@mediagirl: first couple sessions just leggings/bike shorts and a tank, then after that a leotard and matching shorts. We got it from target then bought a second one at the gymnastics place. Then dd decided she absolutely hated it and since she was starting preschool we gave it up.

My daughter actually wears the exact one lawbee posted, from Target. It had held up really well to washings and general toddler abuse. She goes to a gymnastics center and all the girls wear those or regular leotards. Just a suggestion, our children's resale shop has a dance and gymnastics section and I got the next size up for my daughter for like $4!

Gymsuit, basically exactly like a one piece swimsuit! Those and biketards (w shorts not bikini cut) one pieces are most popular at our gym. Some wear two pieces, some wear tahirtnand activewear/fitting shorts.

We just did a tee and leggings but it was a pretty casual class.

LO just went for a gymnastics party and she wore a leotard with stretchy athletic shorts over it.

DD is 2.5 and she wears leggings and a t-shirt. My son is 4.5 and wears shorts or sweat pants and a tee shirt. Some of the 3-4yo girls wear leotards but almost all of the littles like my DD wear leggings and a tee.

DD is 19 months and just wears whatever. Jeans, leggings, tshirt or sweatshirt. Just stuff she can move in. Not like they are legit tumbling. No need for a fancy leotard at that age.
