I've never seen kolaches anywhere else. They're sold at donut shops.

@Leialou: I was just going to come and say kolaches. I'm from WI, but moved to Houston to be with DH and he thought it was crazy that I had no idea what they were.

In San Diego, it's all about fish tacos and California burritos.
But I'm originally from Chicago - the home of deep dish pizza!

@Leialou: @kiddosc: Boy do I miss kolaches! And decent brisket and TexMex and gulf coast seafood... Luckily I'm visiting Houston again next week!
My current city is known for hot dogs, deep dish and Italian beef sandwiches. They're also known for mixing cheese and caramel popcorn, which is surprisingly tasty!

St Louis is known for toasted ravioli and gooey butter cake. Ice tea was invented here as well. St Louis-style pizza (which I do NOT like) has cracker crust, provel cheese, and is square cut.
My hometown (Springfield, IL) is famous for the horseshoe sandwich. Texas toast with crinkle fries and meat on top, covered in cheese sauce. Delicious!

@loveisstrange: I'm going to St. Louis for a wedding. I want toasted ravioli so bad. I always got it for my birthday as a kid. I miss it so much.

@rattles: It took me almost a decade to have an Italian beef sandwich here. Now, I love them. I'm not a big fan of the Chicago mix popcorn. I work near a Garrett's and laugh about how the lines are so long during the summer.

I live in Philadelphia, so cheesesteaks and soft pretzels. But I grew up in Hershey, so...CHOCOLATE.
