My son will be 14 weeks tomorrow and had been going down in his crib for weeks with no problems. He even slept through the night a few times last week.
Then this week he started eating more frequently and for longer periods and sleeping in shorter stretches. I thought maybe a growth spurt.
Yesterday his right cheek was a little swollen and pink. The pink patch faded to a line and then disappeared overnight. He barely napped at all yesterday and wouldn't go down at all. The only way we could get him to sleep was to sleep.
Any ideas what's going on/advice?

The outside of his cheek was pink? I have no idea what that would be so it could be the cause or completely unrelated (don't you love babies).
As far as sleep goes, again, it could be due to anything, any signs of teeth yet?

That's just newborns for you, as soon as you think you've figured them out, they do something to change it up!
Could it be related to something you ate, the pink patch on his cheek? Maybe it was a mild reaction to something.

Yeah, I have no idea if the cheek thing is related. The only thing I are that I hadn't eaten before was a few strawberries.
His gums don't seem irritated, but he has been drooling more, so we had early teething as a theory.
It was the abruptness of the change that seemed weird to me. I know babies like to change it up and keep you on your toes!

Strawberries can be highly allergic...so that might be it. My son had a bit of a reaction after eating a strawberry apple puree last summer.

I just talked to my husband and apparently our nephew had a strawberry intolerance when he was a baby! Sounds like we have a new theory!

Hope not eating strawberries helps! But I think you should just get used to crazy sleep. Just when you think you figure things out, something happens to screw it up.

@looch: Thanks again! I'm more convinced now that it was the strawberries. He seemed much more his normal self this evening and went down for the night like he usually does (touch wood) a little while ago and his cheeks aren't as puffy.

@MegWag: huh weird about the strawberry thing. And crazy that you could deduce that! I would never be able to tell if I'd eaten a "new" food.
As for sleep, totally there with you! He was doing so well with his one 5-hour stretch, then another 3-4 hours, then the last 3 hours. So only twice to eat. I was so happy.
But lately it's been every 2-3 hours to eat, sometimes he's up 5+ times at night. He is the same age as your LO, 15 weeks today. -
@Coco Bee: Ugh! I hope it gets better soon. I'm thinking a growth spurt was partly to blame, so maybe they'll get back on a better schedule soon
Normally I wouldn't have been able to pinpoint a different food, but I just happened to have the first strawberries of the summer in the last few days.
