I use a period tracker app on my phone, which tells me my fertile days and the day I ovulate. I looked up charting online and read about basal temp and checking your mucus. What exactly do you do to chart?
Thanks

By putting your basal temperatures onto a graph you can detect a definite pattern to your BBT that will tell you exactly what day you released an egg and then when your period will start or if you are pregnant. Your temp goes up after you ovulate and drops when you're about to have your period. It stays elevated if you become pregnant.

Yup, @prettylizy: said it. But you need a special BBT thermometer (available online or in any drug store/Target) and you need to take your temp at the same time every morning, right when you wake up (I would set the alarm for half an hour before I had to wake up on weekdays, but that alarm went every day, even weekends. Then I went to sleep after I took it.)
I really liked it (and I'm pregnant now!) but if your schedule is unpredictable it can be tough.

To add to what @prettylizy said, once you've done this a month or two you can usually predict around when you'll ovulate (if you have a normal cycle). It can also help show if you have any issues, such as PCOS or low progesterone. Check out the "charters of the hive" thread for lots of stories, answers to questions, and advice.
