I'm googling to figure this out. It's all over my FB newsfeed. Other 20-30 somethings seem into it. Anyone playing this? Is it fun? Too huge a time suck?
I have zero background Pokemon knowledge.

I downloaded it a few days ago and played it for about 5 minutes. It is augmented reality video game. You can see the characters over your real life background, using your camera. If you walk with your phone, you are able to proceed through the game accordingly. It's free so you can download it to see it and make your player.

My sisters were obsessed with Pokemon when they were younger so I know a bit. Pokemon are basically "animals" that you can collect and battle. There are all sorts of card/video games and a tv show based on them. This game you can walk around and find the Pokemon wherever you go. It's fun and easy, I've been playing since Thursday and have collected like 50, definitely makes my walks more interesting

I've been playing it with fiends and family and we're having a blast. I think the hunting together has been what's really fun - a shared, outdoor experience.

@farawayyama: LO and I had a blast just now trying to catch the one that looks like a bat. GOing out to do this as a family exercise activity after dinner. Some funny posts:

It's actually a good concept for getting kids (ahem, and adults, hehe) out and about. You walk around and search for them and virtually 'catch' them. A clever take on an old game.

I see it all over FB too, but I honestly don't have time and don't walk around enough to do this (I don't live or work in an urban setting).

I believe the game has only been out since the middle of last week so I'd imagine the hype will die down eventually. It does sound like fun, but a little too much work for me. Ha!
Although consider oohs successful it's already been its only a matter of time before there's a ton of other games like it.

I have no clue about Pokemon in general but I love the concept. How do you know if you catch "good" ones?

I was trying to play this yesterday when we took the dog for a walk. DH was getting so pissed at me because I was trying to find Pokemon and poke stops. I need to get him hooked too. I was like, "We need to walk over this way. There is a poke stop over here." The game is fun right now, but I can see myself getting bored with it pretty quickly.
He has no room to talk or be pissed. He plays Boom Beach and Clash Royal all the time.

Something that requires me to exercise? Ehh, I'll pass. It is a good concept to get kids more active... But as long as they are doing it safely. Do you have to walk into a middle of a street?
I have heard about robberies being linked to this app. I think I read the lure feature caused it.
Before what I knew what the app was, I did read this article about naming your Pokemon what autocorrect say. I laughed. https://www.buzzfeed.com/juliareinstein/keith-my-lovable-boy?utm_term=.wpAZZ48PGm#.wpAZZ48PGm

Use caution with little ones: LO likes the game and she is the only one in our family who can consistently throw and capture the Pokemon- especially the pesky bats. But it is kind of freaky so use your discretion. It looks like a bat is flying in our house because the game graphics are overlaid real life. I don't want her to be creeped out by 'invisible' monsters. I have to admit, it is a little creepy to me too. And of course...all the bad press is coming out about the dangers of it. I like the cool augmented reality/tech aspect. It is pretty groundbreaking. That said, DH and I have our reservations about letting LO continue to play with/or without us. If I didn't have kids, I'd probably have a longer phase playing because it is quite innovative and I am NOT and have NOT ever been a gamer. Just a self-proclaimed tech-ie.

@808love: you can turn the augmented reality off in the game if it bothers you. When you are trying to catch a Pokemon, there is a small AR in the top right corner. You can switch it off by clicking on that. It'll just show the Pokemon in a Pokemon world rather than in your real life surroundings.

@Boopers: oh yah- I toggled with it but good idea for LO. But then again that's the fun part too.

I had no idea what this was until I saw the news today.

I just downloaded it today after DH tried telling me about it yesterday. It's apparently not yet released in my part of the world, but I forgotten to switch my iTunes account (US) and was able to download it. It's a perfect summer game for someone out in the country
