LO had a blister on the side of her mouth the past few days, but that was it. It almost looked like a cold sore. This morning she woke up with all this. This is the only area of her body it is on, no other symptoms. She did have a cold last week though, but this wasn't there. I was thinking HFM but wouldn't that be in other areas?

Could it be impetigo? I don't know for sure what it looks like but I know it has to do with blisters around the mouth area and is super common in young kids (we just had it going around LO1's preschool, although fortunately have avoided it so far)

It coul d be a primary herpes outbreak, but I think the sores are usually inside the mouth. The clusters and fever is suspicious though. Id probably have the ped check it out.

@Bao: impetigo blisters crust over with a honey colored substance. It's super contagious. Go get antibiotics.

@Bao: Impetigo is highly contagious, but not serious. It will clear up on its own in a couple of weeks but an antibiotic cream is usually given to reduce the likelihood of it being spread.

My 3yo got HFM recently and only got spots on her face similar to the ones on the top of your lo's lip. I had no idea it was HFM cuz she didn't get a fever and only had 4 spots on her face. I thought she just had a bug bites! But s couple days later she got a canker sore and then I caught what she had and that's when I figured out it was HFM.

@yellowbird: I've seen primary herpes spread up the face from the inside/corner of the mouth! It can happen.
