Our dog has started to pee in the hallway outside of LO's room or in her romo if the door is open, even though she is potty trained and knows to go outside. we believe it's because she feels like LO is taking over the house (she is) but we are trying to break this now, it's really annoying.

Is the dog that's peeing a boy or girl? If it's a boy, maybe it can sense that new things are happening/new stuff is being moved in and he's marking his territory!

My little dog (pug) marks all over my house. It's infuriating. It started when we moved in with my husband (then fiance) and his dog. It is definitely a dominance thing. Sadly, there hasn't been much we've been able to do to stop it. Soooo....now we put him in a diaper!

Is the carpet new? Sometimes dogs get off on the texture or if theres lots of new things it may be the change and new scents. My dog can tell if we bring a new throw pillow into our house in some random room-they dont miss a beat.. If you think its dominace, practice leadership and make sure doggy gets tons of excercise both physical and mental

It does sound like marking behaviour - especially if it's the little squirts of pee! Perhaps she's anxious about all the baby stuff because she can sense that a new person is coming into the home that is going to "outrank" her.... you just need to step up and be her leader in all areas of her life: Make her sit and stay before she gets her food, give her fusses when you want to not when she demands it, practice taking her toys/treats away (use your body language to "claim them" then step in and take them) then giving them back later, give her lots of exercise and practice having her walk beside you not out in front etc.

As for the pee - you will need to clean it up really well because the scent of her pee will attract her to urinate there again and again. I use diluted biological washing liquid to clean up accidents because the enzymes in it break down the pee.

Lastly - is she fixed? If not - how old is she? If she's a bit older, she might be in the habit of marking so spaying wont be the magical cure it would have been earlier in her life.... but if she's young it can really help.

@grizz: Oh I know, it's so difficult isn't it?! My husband's brilliant at it whereas I can be inconsistent (how can I resist this teeny cute face - on the sofa where she is not allowed to be!!) and as a result our dogs behave impeccably with him at all times but do try it on with me sometimes - I have to make a conscious effort!!
