Our daycare and most others, I'm sure, have the same policy.

DD was sick twice in the first 3 months but then her immune system got better and then it's just been the occasional sick day so luckily it hasn't been that bad. I'm expecting we'll get hit a lot harder once DD #2 goes to daycare, too, and they can infect each other back and forth.

Ours is pretty much the same, once they hit 100 or more, they have to go home and can't return for at least 24 hours.

A few ways we get around it:

1. Pick her up from school BEFORE she hits 100, then technically she isn't being sent home so we get her home and rested, add some medicine and send her back the next day.

2. Have them give her tylenol before she hits 100. We usually ask for them to give it to her if she's 99 or more.

@Mrsbells: One thing that our daycare does to help with the spread of germs is to wash each childs hands after every diaper change.

We also make sure they are washing toys every night.

I just wanted to say that I hear you screaming! My LO started daycare in May and didn't have any illness but all of a sudden has had two fevers in the last two weeks. Luckily the first time my mom was visiting and was able to stay with her while DH and I went to work, but this week we ended up splitting the day. Our daycare has kind of a sliding scale as far as fevers--I think if it is under 101, they have to be fever free for 12 hours, and if it is more than that, then 24 hours.

When LO was sick on Tuesday though, I called and said she had a slight fever but was acting normal and they said I could bring her with the knowledge that if she got worse or starting acting weird I would have to come get her. Of course as soon as I hung up she started getting all clingy and fussy so I didn't take her in...DH and I were able to split the day so I could make it to my important meeting in the afternoon and I didn't have to use a whole day of PTO...

We have a similar policy, but since she's an in-home provider, she can be a little more flexible with the rules. For example, if a kid throws up, she doesn't automatically call the parents to pick the kid up. She'll call and give you a head's up, and if the kid throws up a second or third time, then the kid is sent home. Apparently she had one child who threw up every day, but wasn't sick. Just a digestive problem.

@Mrsbells: Yes, they wash everyone's hands after each diaper change, even the babies. The sanitize the changing pad after each diaper change.The teachers wear gloves to change diapers and to wipe noses. They should also put toys in a "dirty toy bucket" of some sort once it has been in one baby's mouth. I'm sure there are a whole host of things that they do to sanitize!
