@Little Misters Mom: ours has never told us to go to the hospital and LO has probably had half a dozen fevers, always up to 103--the worse was a fever hovering between 101-103 for 3 days straight before it finally broke.

@Little Misters Mom: I agree with anagram-my DS has had several high fevers 103-104, typically an infection/virus. Once it was flu. Our ped was absolutely concerned and always wants us coming in if anything is worrying us.

I'm not sure his exact cut off, but LO has had a couple of 104's before and they said we didn't need to take her in unless we couldn't get it to come down. Kids spike high fevers.

Also, the type of thermometer you use can make a difference, some are more/less reliable than others.

My HMO's is 106F.

My doc doesn't necessarily have one, although they say to call if the fever is above 100.4 if your LO is 3 mo or less, or call any time your child is lethargic, fever is present for 3+ days, or child isn't drinking/wetting diapers.

Our doc also gives a hand out that states that fevers are less worrisome than people think because they are the body's natural way to fight infection and that fevers are very rarely dangerous even in the 104-106 range.

Fevers happen to fight off the virus so they are important.
