We are decorating our home and we have a huge, windowless, off white wall that I would like to hang an oversize reproduction of a painting.
I have a lot of favorite paintings, but because of the subject matter, colors, etc. nothing seems right yet.

I love Monet's Westminster Abbey painting. I just saw it in person for the first time last month

I like most of Joan Miro's work. It's not to everyone's taste, but I think it's quirky... the kind of thing that might be more appropriate in a nursery.. now there's a thought!

Im a Van Gogh fan. I also really like Monet. Id say my favorites are either Starry Night or Nighthawks by Edward Hopper.

@sunny: I always go straight to Monet's water lilies when I think of him, but the Westminster Abbey bridge is handsomely subdued. I don’t remember seeing it before. It is lovely!
@illumina: You are totally right - her work would be perfect for a fun, whimsical nursery!
I'm leaning away from any landscape because I feel like that is too expected, but any portraits don't seem to fit in with our decorating style. Neither does ultra modern or abstract. The rest of the room is on the cool side of the spectrum, so I don't know whether i should work with it or go for something with more contrast.

@zippylef: I always loved Nighthawks. In one of my art history classes, my friend and I spent all class writing an elaborate back-story about the couple by passing notes back and forth. We were nerds.

I've recently become a fan of Leonid Afremov's work....I love the colors. Van Gogh and Klimt are long-time loves.
Most of what's on our walls was painted by my MIL though, lol.
