I love this Concord grape wine that a local winery sells. It's super sweet and tastes just like grape juice, but I love it in the summer!

@travelingnanny: Sounds like me most nights
I usually go w/ any pinot nior or malbec if I'm unsure what to get. The Menage A Trios is usually my go-to wine if I can't find anything else.

I'm terrible at remembering wines I like! I love reds and I go through phases. Currently loving Petite Syrahs (I just pick based on labels at TJ's). Oh! I do ALWAYS buy Sofia Coppola Rose all.the.time. Everyone loves it and the price is very reasonable!

@Sugar.Biscuit: I LOVE THAT RIESLING! I really like Oliver Winery wines, especially their Catawba Blush and all their sweeter ones, they have a great sweet red one. I'm also all for the Barefoot and Flip Flop brands, both their Moscato and Riesling. I think one of them has a pink riesling? Something like that, I'd love to try it (haven't since I've been preggo almost all year now!

My favorite cheap wine is La Vieille Ferme, a Rhone red. For a step-up wine (~$15) I love the Marquis de Caseras, Quinto de Bons-Ventos or Santa Cristina chianti. They also make a good white. For a nice wine (about $25 retail, $50+) restaurant my favorite is the 2005 / 2006 vintage Domain Chandon Pinot noir. Unfortunately the later years are not as tasty I've drank lots more expensive wines but I never take down the label since I don't want to get hooked into the $$$$!!

My favorite type is pinot grigio. I'm cheap when it comes to wine, so I get stuff like Rex & Goliath and Cupcake.

@allison: ditto and love cupcake
My favorite red is naked grape Pinot noir

Depends on the price point.
Cheap: Coppola Wines ($9-10 usually at grocery stores) DH likes the Claret best - I like them all.
Nice: Joel Gott 815 ($14)
Splurge: Duckhorn Cabernet $38 (Costco)
Obviously I'm a red girl!

I buy whatever's on chairman's selection - wine and liquor are controlled by the state here, and PA is like the us's #2 purchaser of wine, so they get drastic markdowns on really pricey wines all the time. I'm always buying something new but never writing it down. (Yes, we have to go to a separate store to buy booze. It sucks.)
I like malbec, pinot noir and Sauvignon blanc though. Cupcake is my old faithful.

Selbach Riesling Spatlese
I'm also a fan of Old Vine Zin's
Most of the time I go with a cheap Beringer White Zin.

Santa Margherita Pino Grigio and Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling.
Red wines always give me a horrible headache even if I've only had one sip.

Red: Cabernet Sauvignon
White: Pinot Grigio
Robert Mondavi is my go-to brand.

i love malbecs and zinfandels for red, and sauvignon blancs for white. i like kim crawford for sauvignon blancs, but really any one from new zealand is pretty much great. malbecs from uco valley are great because they have the perfect climate for them. old vine zins are lovely.

Bare Feet!! The bottles boast it's awards. I have had the Zinfandel, Riesling, and Moscato. I like sweet!
Lakeridge winery in Central, FL had really delicious Whites and Reds.

@shopaholic: Is that rose really sweet? I always see them drinking rose on RHBH and Lisa's opening line is always "Life isn't all diamonds and rose, but it should be..." They made me interested I. It but I never want to buy bc if it's too sweet it'll go to waste!
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
@PurplePumps: Ditto on the Cupcake! My favorite red is probably their Red Velvet!
My favorite white is the Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio but I only buy that for special occasions bc it's like $20 a bottle and we'll down it in one night. I stick to $10-$12 bottles for everyday. I like Mezzacorona Pinot Grigio for everyday booze:)

@Pepper: Ooh, DH would love that!! Any idea the name or where its from?!

@LindsayInNY: It's called Concord wine, and two wineries around here sell their own versions (both equally amazing). Do you have a winery near you? Most of them make a Concord wine (from what I've seen - though I've only been to PA wineries). Literally tastes like grape juice!

I like a rose from a local winery down the road from us. Also, Schmitt Sohne Reisling or Santa Margherita Reisling.

There's a red blend at our grocery store that we LOVE - Apothic Red. It's only $8 and is really really good.
For white, the wine bar down the street has a pinot blanc by the class. I have yet to find pinot blanc anywhere else. We've tried asking at Spec's, and they found one once and it was $60. Nope. So, I go back to the wine bar and order multiple glasses

@PrincessBaby: True roses generally aren't sweet. Just make sure not to get a white zinfandel. One of my favorite roses that is generally available is Crios Rose of Malbec. So yummy in summer; I like to have a bottle around. DH won't touch it - he thinks it's too dry. More for me!

Any kind of sweet, white wine like a Reisling. I'll have red if I'm having steak or want a sangria, but don't have a favorite type of red.

@dagret: In NC, we have to buy liquor from an ABC store, too. It's dumb. Not wine or beer, though. You can buy those at the grocery, thank goodness.
I'm definitely going to be trying some of these wines. I'm trying to like reds more, so I think I'll pick up some Cupcake Red Velvet next!

I'm a Moscato/sweet white person!
I like both the Cupcake and the Barefoot Moscato. My favorite is a slightly fizzy version by Dezzani, but I've only seen it at the stores on base here. I looked for it in the States and never found it.

I really like this thread. DH and I are very much craft beer people and I feel like we know a lot about beer. But we are both clueless when it comes to wine.
I'm going to try some of these wines. I like the flavor of red wines, but I prefer white wine because I like my beverages chilled.
pear / 1895 posts
@TemperanceBrennan: I know some people that chill their red. I also read something recently suggesting to freeze grapes and put it in your red wine. I think I might try that.
