I have always loved it and thought it fit well with LO's first name. We found out after he was born and we shared the name that it is also a family name on my mom's side.

DS- James, which was my Dad's middle name. He passed away a few years ago.
If this LO is a girl, middle name will be Evelyn after my mom who has also passed away. If it's a boy, we'll probably use FIL's first name or middle (Donald or John).

my maiden name -- we never even discussed other options.
When I got married, I took my maiden name as my middle name since my original middle name had no significance.
eg: I was born ABC and my Husband's last name is D. When I got married, I changed my name to ACD, and dropped B entirely.

It's my las name! I first "discovered" this trend when my friends from law school started having babies - to keep their last names in the equation along with their spouses' last names. We really liked the idea! So our son is Cooper [my last name][spouse's last name].

Scott - it is my DH's middle name and also my brother's first name.
My maiden name is my middle name now - but it is a mouthful so I wouldn't make my LOs have it.

DS1 - DH's name (family tradition is to give the first born son the father's name as his middle name.
DS2 - My mom's maiden name. I wanted to honor my side of the family and my dad's name didn't sound right with his first name. Plus, my dad for some reason told me not to use his name. Weird
