R is starting to eat some fruit (peaches, pears, pineapple, and mandarin oranges) at school finally! I was going to get some to keep on hand at home. What kind is best? I know most are in syrup and I don't want the sugar if I can avoid it.

@Smurfette: I just buy fresh fruit. If you eat fruits too it should go pretty quickly. Or freeze leftovers or juice them.
ETA: I do buy frozen blueberries for her because fresh is too expensive especially in the winter.

They sell little cups of fruit in juice that I keep on hand. Fresh fruit tastes like crap right now and is expensive

We've bought the fruit cups at target. I look for the no sugar added, packed in water (not syrup/juice) but lo has honestly had all of them. It was good for when she didn't really have molars/teeth around 1 y/o. Once she started chewing better we found it cheaper to buy fresh fruits. You could also just steam fruits, which we also did.

I love fresh fruit but I also like LO to have a variety. I get some frozen organic fruit to have on hand. She loves mango and cherries. You could pack them right from the freezer in a bag or container.

@blackbird: I haven't been impressed with anything lately.
Do you get ones in water or light syrup?
@JerricaBenton: I have tried frozen and she has no interest. I don't blame her, they are mushy to me. I don't like them either.

@Smurfette: I don't usually like frozen berries but I've been enjoying the mangoes and cherries myself with my yogurt. Their texture is pretty good to me but maybe not after a few hours for a packed lunch.

I have the Del Monte fruit cups in 100% fruit juice. The ones in the fridge are some antioxidant one--fruit in mango juice or something. It's not like she's going to drink all the fruit juice. She won't eat the giant chunks of it, but she will eat it when I cut it into smaller pieces or if i put it on a fork for her. I don't know what her obsession is with eating off mama's fork.
also trader joe's has these maine wild blueberries--they're much smaller and sweeter than other blueberries. I microwaved them for 20 seconds and she ate a ton of them

@Smurfette: trader joes! Their peaches packed in white grape juice are so yummy!
ETA: and they're in glass jars so you don't have to worry about BPA lining cans

I think Del Monte has fruit cups packed in water, or at least with no sugar added. l haven't bought them in a while, but I used to pack them in my lunch.

Just so you know, the Del Monte Fruit cocktails don't have sugar added, but they have sucralose, which is Splenda. The other ones are in syrup.

The Trader Joe's ingredient list looks a lot better since they use juice. I'd probably look for the ones that are packed in juice. The Dole ones also have ones packed in juice.
If you're not impressed with the current fresh fruit selection, what if you cut up the fresh fruit and added some juice to it? I'm not sure if it makes it more/less cost effective.

I drain and rinse all of her preserved fruit to wash off the excess sugar

We buy them in juice and pour out the liquid. Sometimes they are nice on hand.

These don't have Splenda and you buy them in the fresh section

I get fruit cups at Whole Foods. They're packed in juice and I just drain them. They're good as a quick, portable snack.
