Just pre-ordered our free range/hormone free turkey the other day for Thanksgiving Day! A 18-20lber! Yum yum.
We will still stock up on store bought turkey just because I LOVE turkey and they're so cheap around thanksgiving.

We order ours from Whole Foods. I might do a ham this year instead. I am not a turkey fan...gasp!

@chopsuey119: a local farm about 40 minutes away from us. Try googling! I'm sure outside of ATL there's probably farms in the boonies! hehe And OMG ever since we watched an Alton Brown episode on brining your turkey we've done that. Most amazing thing ever. Makes a HUGE difference, even the boobies are soft and moist!

@chopsuey119: @regberadaisy: I brine and make an Asian turkey but I still like ham better. And I'll be hugely pregnant and doing all the cooking so I get what I want!

I will do a whole turkey from the grocery store. I have made the turkey for a lot of years now and have pretty much perfected my recipe- never have had a dry turkey yet.
I am planning on getting some smaller turkeys or just the breast when they are on sale to stock the freezer up.

I don't know what we're doing. We're going to my parents' house this year, but I was thinking about splitting the dishes with my mom, so she doesn't have to do all the cooking. Maybe I'll offer to do the turkey...

A free one! My DH's company gives every employee a turkey the week before, so we will be using that! I have 12 people coming to thanksgiving (MY FIRST ONE AT MY HOUSE OMG WHAT AM I THINKING) soo I hope it's big enough!

We usually get a large organic, free range turkey (about 20 lbs), but I think this year we'll go a little smaller - had so many leftovers last year!

I get the Morningstar Dinner Roast from a local health food store, and this reminds me that I need to pre-order two of them because they always sell out and I need one for Thanksgiving and one for Christmas.

I am a Thanksgiving orphan, so I usually go to a different house each year. I obviously just eat whatever they have. Last year I was at my cousin's house and they brined the turkey and oh man, was that good. Been to houses where they've deep fried as well, which is also tasty!
Not sure what will happen this year though. If it winds up just being DH and I we will probably just get some turkey legs and roast those. Or just eat turkey sandwiches, ha.

@Arden: I didn't realize morningstar had a version of this. Is theirs better than the tofurkey one, or have you not tried the tofurkey one?
I don't love the tofurkey but I get it just to have it.

We live too far away from our families to drive home this year -- I'll be 32 weeks pregnant so I don't want to risk it. /driving 10 hours that pregnant sounds miserable. I don't know what we'll do! Go out to eat? Y'all are making me jealous, talking about your organic, free-range turkeys.

Free range from Whole foods. I don't like how they inject so much salt in the frozen ones found in regular supermarkets!

@travelingbrit: I think it's WAY better than the tofurkey. To me the tofurkey is rubbery... but I just realized the dinner roast is Worthington, not Morningstar.

@allison: We have done turkey dinner for 2, I just go hunting for the smallest young turkey I can get my hands on, and do small versions of our favourite sides (like yam casserole made with 1 yam etc) - You could call it "freezer cooking" as well and freeze the leftovers in 2 person portions to reheat once baby has arrived!
