What I'm struggling the most with BFing right now is finding a comfortable nursing position. I like to nurse on the couch during the day but half the time it feels so awkward and I can't figure out how to position my baby.
How do you position yourself and your baby when nursing on the couch? Details would be great.

I mostly use the cradle hold. I put a pillow behind me to support my back, use my boppy and another pillow under LO, and my nursing stool.

I usually use a Boppy and have him lying in a cradle hold position. I like it because it frees up my hands.

We nursed on the couch a lot during the early days! I sat cross-legged on the couch and used My Brest Friend (Boppy didn't work so well for me). If I left the pillow upstairs, I just used the cradle hold.

@mrskc: Football. I have a pillow behind my back and one lying flat on the side the LO is nursing from. I lay her flat on the pillow and then sit her up by pushing her shoulders upright with the hand on the side Im nursing from and do the c hold of my boob with the other. Then she latches and thats it. I can sit comfortably using this hold. My question to you is how you do the side lying position in bed. I think I read somewhere that you had just mastered it. Would love to know details if you have a chance!

Cradle hold. I sit indian style with the Boppy or just shove a pillow under my arm. When she was smaller the Boppy was an absolute must!

I used a pillow to bring my baby up at level with my breast, and propped my feet up. Anything to keep from hunching over?

I used cradle hold, with a Boppy. And since the Boppy didn't really come up high enough, I put a pillow underneath it, on both sides of the Boppy.

I use the boppy with a pillow behind my back and another pillow under my arm. I almost always do cradle, but will occasionally do football.

I've been doing the reclined position - lots of pillows behind and I lay J on my chest to eat - its been great!

@JessLC: I'll have to give the football hold a try again. Yes, side lying is the easiest for me. I use a waterproof pad under the baby so I don't get spills on the sheets. I lay on my side and put my LO next to me on his side with his nose aligned with my nip. I pull his legs and lower body in close to me. Then I grasp his back and shoulders and bring him to my breast. When he opens his mouth, I quickly pull him onto my breast still holding him by the shoulders. Hope that makes sense!
I just struggled with LO for 45 minutes on the couch before we settled into a comfy position. I'm going to have to keep working on it.

@hellobeeboston: I have trouble with an inclined position. How do you support his head? I try this and I feel like my boob is suffocating him. This just does not come natural for me.

@mrskc: If he's nursing on my left, I have his head in the elbow of my left arm, if you put a pillow underneath your arm on that side that can help as well, then his body is across mine.

My kids would not eat in any other position than the cradle hold. So I'd sit cross-legged and put a boppy on my lap.

Cradle or cross cradle hold. It's more comfortable if you can lean against the arm of the couch and surround yourself with pillows. I really want to try the side lying nursing position now!

In the beginning I use the boppy, and carried her in a cradle hold. But to be honest I never liked breastfeeding on the couch. WHich is why we went out and for the glider. Sometimes i will sit in a way that the arm I am holding the baby with is propped up on the arm rest
