I've wanted a dog ever since I knew what it was! But my mom wouldn't let me so I've had all these pets -
Goldfish & Beta's
Turtles
Parakeets
Rabbit
And finally when I graduated college I got a dog!

Many goldfish and betas

@cmomma17: Do you know how many cats you've had/have?
@pui: Haha why did you hate the bird?

Just cats and dogs. Parents weren't for any exotic type pets, even fish. I'd love to get a beta fish now and name him Klaus.

@CakeLady: Squirrels! It was my childhood dream to run into wild baby animals in need of rescuing (until I learned that you really need to be a professional to do that)

@HellOnHeels: You should! They are pretty easy to take care of!

@snowjewelz: we definitely didn't have any professionals in the house, but we were able to nurse one of the two squirrel babies back to health (the other one had a pretty bad head injury from the fall). When he got too big and squirrely we took him to a local forest preserve where they take in a lot of animals that are a little too friendly with humans - like huge, over-fed zoo squirrels .

I was the youngest and got a dog when my sister went to college (I was 13). My siblings were all jealous because they always wanted a dog!

@snowjewelz: Mainly because no matter how many blankets we put over his cage he would squawk at the top of his lungs starting at 4:30 every morning lol. I also just didn't see him as being fun like other pets.

When I was growing up:
Dozens of dogs and cats (often at least 6 of each at any given time)
Doves, parakeets, cockatoos
3 ferrets
1 hedgehog
3 Australian bearded dragons
Snakes
Fish
Mice (when I was really little)
Rabbits
2 pot-bellied pigs
Goats
3 emus
Often most of the above things at the same time. My father and stepmother are suckers for animals, particularly strays. The emus were a birthday/anniversary gift from my stepmother to my father, and when she bought them we were living in the suburbs (we moved out of the city and onto a couple of acres soon after).
Now D and I have 3 cats, which is 1 too many.

My family when I was growing up had at various times:
a cat
an assortment of freshwater fish
2 hamsters
stick insects
5 degus
2 mastiffs
Now my parents just have the 2 mastiffs and my husband and I have a cat.

@lovehoneybee: I would've been so jealous of you growing up!
@Aria: Wow, pretty crazy to keep a snapping turtle around! I saw one of those on our driveway once; we didn't dare go near it!

@snowjewelz: Honestly, I hated it. It was like living in a zoo, and not in a fun way--my parents weren't great about cleaning up after them. I have zero interest in having a lot of pets. We have 3 cats now and it's too many (we're debating trying to adopt one of them out to one of D's co-workers).

@snowjewelz: I can remember at least 10 by name off the top of my head. Probably missing a few! We always had three at a time, one for my parents, one for my sister and one for me. We also had momma cats with litters of kittens multiple times in my childhood (newborn kittens were pretty much the most exciting thing ever for little girls), so we would keep those for a little while and then find most of them new homes.
