We have told a couple of people what our baby's name is going to be, and people immediately ask if its a family name. Its not; we just chose it because we liked it. The question made me curious though... did you choose your LO's name because it had significance to you, or just because you liked it?

I'll answer because even though dh and I are still waiting to try, we have both our boy and girl names picked out already
our chosen girl name has family significance--it's a single name but draws from 3 family members' names. but our boy name is just one we like, with no real significance at all. I wish it was significant--it's Jewish tradition to name children after deceased family members--but I really dislike all the male names in our family that I would otherwise use--the best one is Perry which I still don't like at all! I like Pearl as a girl-variation of it but dh isn't into it, and the girl names we've come up with that honor our families are better anyway

We picked her first name because we liked it, but also for the meaning/significance to us.
My LO’s name is Eleanor, which means “ray of sun/light”. The day she was born it was sunny and perfect out until literally like 10 minutes before my c-section, when it turned so dark and started raining. By the time I walked from my hospital room to the OR, it had started HAILING and there was a huge lightning storm, which lasted only the duration of her delivery. By the time I was back in my room recovering; the sky was calm again! It was a craaaaazy storm. So, we decided we would name her after the storm and Eleanor fit perfectly to her face, and to the fact that she was our ray of light in that storm
Her middle names are both our mom’s names.

I'm Spanish and my DH is English. We wanted a name that was easily pronounceable in both languages. DH is also a history buff and really wanted an historic name. In the end we found a name with Latin roots that was common in England at the turn of the century.

It was the name we liked and the only boy name we agree on. His middle is after my DH.
If we have A girl she will have a Japanese name that I have always loved and it just so happens DH loves it and is half Japanese. She will also get my middle name.

His first name is DH's grandpas middle name. His middle name is my favorite Beatle. His initials are a family tradition in DH's family.

We chose her first name because of the meaning - it means 'a child is family', and we chose her middle names to reflect her Taiwanese, Japanese and Nigerian heritage.

No LOs yet, but our boy will have his great-grandfathers name as a first name (that he didn't actually use here in Canada because it was "weird".. however it is totally not weird by todays standards and is an awesome name!) and my dads name as a middle! Unsure for girls, but I do love using family names

We chose a name based on a few things - not that popular (so not in the Social Security's top 200 list for the past few years), easy to spell, easy to pronounce and gender specific. One of meanings for LO's name is "God is good" and while we're not very religious, we both believe in a higher spirit and liked what his name represented. His middle name is my husband's first name to follow the tradition of my middle name being my mom's first name.

First name is just because we liked it (and I decided I liked the name after Charlotte from SATC).
Middle name is in honor of my grandmother who passed away a couple of years ago.

We used family names. My LO is Evan Charles. Evans is DH's middle name, FIL's middle name, and was DH's grandmother's maiden name, and Charles is MIL's maiden name.
It was important to DH to pass down his middle name in some way, but we ended up deciding to use it as a first name because it was one of the very few boy names we could agree on. We went with Charles because it flowed well with both the first and last names, honored his mom's side since we were honoring his dad's with the first name, and to be honest, I knew it would score brownie points with DH's not-so-nice maternal grandmother (it totally did, we're the favorites at the moment).

We don't know what LO is yet, but both of our names have meaning to us. Our girl name is a genus for a tree frog (my husband is a wildlife biologist), and it means "from the woods," which we like. Our boy name is after DH and both of our fathers. It's also the name I would have had if I were a boy.

We just picked a name we liked and was less common. Her middle name is Vietnamese to honor DH background, but we also went with a name we liked verses a family name for it.

Her middle name is a shortened version of my favorite aunts name, who passed away shortly before we were married. -
our daughters name is Brooklyn Marie , brooklyn was just a name we fell in love with and it suits her perfectly.. and Marie is my middle name that my grandmother picked out for me, we passed 2 months before my daughter was born it would have been her first great granddaughter
for our next addition: we picked Harold William for a boy, my grandfathers name he passed away 3 years ago and we absolutely love the name its the only boy name we've ever decided on so were sticking with it, and William is from my husbands family (his fathers name and great grandpa) we mentioned it to our family have didnt get a great reaction not even from my grandmother so we wont be telling family any information in regards to the name or sex
as for a girl we havent chosen a name.. but the middle name will be Evelyn - my husbands grandmothers name..

E's first name is because we liked it and DH had no better counter-offers, heh. His middle name is my late FIL's name. If we had a girl, she would have still had my FIL's name, so she would have been a Lily Howard.

Our girl name is a name we love, but it's also DH's great-grandma's name. Our boy name is a name we just happened to love, and it's kind of a nod to his dad and grandpa, but it isn't the same.

Middle name- Joseph (after my dh and his dad)
2nd middle name Cole (after my momma) -
Our baby will be Nathan Dean. We both agreed on Nathan after not being able to think of a boy name for awhile and later, we found out it means "God has given" which I like.
Dean is my dad's middle name. I'm really close to my dad and wanted to honor him. Also I think it flows really well with his first name and our last name.

First name we liked. Middle name was my grandmas name, my moms middle name and my middle name.

Her first name is after my maternal grandmother and the middle name is after his. Both grandmothers were gone before she was born. Some of my siblings and cousins wanted to use my grandmothers name too,so it was a race to have the first girl! My cousin was due a month before me and I was praying it would be a boy (it was!)

Our girl name is the place where DH told me he loved me for the first time. The middle name is his late mothers middle name.
Our boy first and middle name is just two names we liked. Although we picked the middle initial because a lot of family members names start with that letter.
Can't wait to find out with LO is so we can know what to call him/her.
