I know it varies depending on how your baby grows, but since it's summer and my LO will be born in November I want to take advantage of all the winter/fall clearance clothes.
Would you get 0-3 or 3-6? I'm looking at Old Navy and Target right now

LO is only a year old, but she wore 6 & 6-12 from 4 to 10 months. Most of her 6-12 tops and dresses still fit. She's long and skinny.

LO is only 4 mos. so my experience is limited....
She wore 0-3 until she was five weeks
3-6 until she was 12 weeks
And has been in 6-12 since.
I think she'll be in 6-12 for a while.

I added the next size up because babies are bigger than I thought haha.
So, basically 0-3 is newborn, you need a few 3-6 and a ton of 6-12's.

@MrsTiz: L was jumbo sized at birth (and still is) so she never wore newborn sizes. I know shopaholic's K was in newborn until 8 weeks.

My son wasn't in the 6-12 month stuff for very long either, though. He was born in December and he was basically in size 6 months at 3 months of age, size 9 months at 6 months of age and size 12 months around 9 months. By a year, he was in size 18-24.
He has a long torso and shorter legs, so usually, he's one size ahead in the tops compared to the bottoms.

I didn't buy newborn clothes at all (I have big babies!) and put mine directly into 0-3. I would say 0-3 and then some 3-6 clothes for the winter clearance. Both of my guys were in the clothing for the months that it said (like they wore 0-3 months until they were three months old). Hey, if you over buy then you can always sell it at a consignment sale and make some of the money back!

@MrsTiz: There is actually a separate newborn size. My LO was in newborn clothes for 6 weeks. Then she wore 0-3 until she was about 4 months old. Now she's in 3-6 and I expect her to outgrow those clothes at about 7 months.

She's been wearing 6-12 since she was 4 months old and still fits into a bunch of them! Some she has grown out of but most of the Gap stuff still fits. I find their pants are long, which I like because they can grow into them!

She probably wore 6-12 longest since she is in 9-12 now, but wore 6 most of the winter.

0-3 & 3-6. He's still in 3-6 for some things & he's nearly 9 months.

My LO is 7 1/2 months and has been wearing 3-6 tops for about 4 months now & 9 month pants for probably 3!

Mine was in newborn for 8 weeks, 0-3 for 4weeks, 3-6 for 4weeks, now at 5 months is chilling in a mix of 6-9 and 9-12.

Definitely 6-12. She wore it from 4 months until 10/11 months. She wore NB for 2 weeks, 0-3 for 6 weeks and 3-6 for 2 months.

6-12 from 4 until 10ish months...and she can still wear some of the tops at 12 months, though the sleeves are short. She is VERY tall though and has been in 18-24m pants and leggings for months.

In your case, I'd say 3 - 6 months and a few 6 to 12 months. But I don't know where you live, so I don't know how long the cold season tends to last! My first LO was born in January and grew out of the 6 - 9 month clothes around 6 months, I think. It's rough guessing this stuff!

6 months. Target is having awesome sales for baby clothes right now

6 months clothes-Carter's sizing, he wore from 4-6 months
9 months clothes-we're in these currently at 8 months. I want to say that he's worn them from 6-7 months on. 9 months pants have been too big on him until recently. The Old Navy 6-12 months is a good size and has been lasting awhile.

@NaturallyCathy: I live in NC so we don't get snow (if so it's 1-2inches for a day) and it stays about 35 degrees in the coldest time, which is January-Feb.

@MrsTiz: Yeah but you've seen my kidlets. They're on the healthy chubbily side! So I'd still get primarily 3 - 6 and. Few essentials in either size of that (0 - 3 and 6 - 9)

My LO grew really fast the first 6 months so outgrew 0-3, 3-6 super fast. He stayed in 6-12/6-9/9 month the longest!

@oliviaoblivia: You're right friend! K was in NB till about 8 weeks. Obviously it differs from some brands like Little Me and Vitamins are still too big.
@MrsTiz: I stocked up anytime I could get a good deal! K's probably set for the first 18 months! I bought the most stuff in 3-6 but I'm always on the lookout for 9 and 18 months because it seems like there's the least stuff in those brackets. 6-12 is kind of a big range - I'd think that should last the longest the first year. I bought ALL her jackets/ coats/ and sweaters onthebig side. I know Mrs. Bee and Brandy have both written about getting 2 years wear out of the same jacket or coat. And I don't mind them being bigger.

Some 0-3 but more 3-6 so he can grow into it.
