We didn't really take vacations....unless going to my grandma's in Southern Illinois counts! We did go to Disney World in a motor home once, though.

I'd really like to go to all of the state parks with our future-kids. My husband's family did that when the boys were little and I think it seems like a nice, fairly inexpensive thing to do. However, as long as my parents stay in Texas, most of our vacations will probably be spent going to see them.

we went to disney a LOT..my dad owns timeshare. i will totally be using them when we want to go with a LO! who am i kidding, they'll want to come no matter when we gp [with a LO].

also grew up spending summers camping. yes..from May-Oct! obviously with the exception of school. we were "seasonal" there. I LOVED it. so many great memories.

by we, i mean my family. my dh didnt really vacation - italy once with his parents and "church" group..

aww, no I never camped there, but my mom did when she was little with her fam! many times that we're in disney, my mom will insist on walking through fort wilderness because of the memories..and it's SO cool!

we camped at a place near the Cape called Maple Park..then the owner died and the new owner sold out to Jellystone (gag). It's not the same that it was when I was little, we stopped going when I hit hs because it was so commercialized. my parents met growing up there! and tmi..but i was conceived there. LOL!

@artbee: oh I know! but growing up having known the campground as what it was (a family owned, very rustic, ponds not pools, electric if you paid extra) and then seeing a 15 foot tall Yogi Bear on the side of the pond was traumatic, lol! it felt like the new owner "killed" the magic of what it used to be.

I so badly want to stay at fort wilderness! it's such a great deal (money wise) and just so fun. we went in august and ate at the buffet..I was quite jealous of people just chillin' in the rocking chairs!

we always did a July 4th family camping trip!

We drove from Texas to Ohio every summer to visit my grandparents. My parents did a great job of making the drive an adventure - we'd take several days to drive ther and back, stopping in different cities and seeing lots of historic sights along the way. DH and I are avid campers and recreational RV'ers, so there are lots of camping trips in LO's future. I love our national parks!
@sorrycharlie: @artbee: I'm excited to hear that Ft Wilderness is awesome! I really want to take LO to Disneyworld in a couple years, and DH and I want to go in our RV.

Our vacations were usually visiting my dad's family in other states. Every few years, my mom would take my sister and me to japan for the whole summer to visit her family. Otherwise, we didn't really go on vacations.

I never really went on vacations since I stayed with my grandma most of the time and she stayed at home the majority of the time. When I moved with my dad we went camping one time when I was in highschool and that is it. DH and I are hoping to do more camping, adventuring and all that fun stuff with the kids when things get more settled.

My dad loved to drive everywhere, so we went on a ton of road trips... He drove us from CA to NY about three times... So I have been to a lot of US landmarks and states. Drove up to Vancouver too. Drove from LA to SF countless times. He also took me and my grandma to Europe when I was 16... Flew into Paris and he drove us around to Switzerland, Italy, the French Riviera, Spain.

Our own family vacations will involve much less driving... more flying, more good food, and more r & r! our first full family vacation was to Maui this past summer. 2.0 was just 5 weeks old so I just nursed on the beach a lot and the toddler loved making sand castles all day... we had a blast!

When we were much younger we went camping regularly. After my parents divorced the only place we went to was Disneyland a couple of times.

As a young child, we went to the FL Keys, Smokey mountains, etc. Camping, always. Cheap.
When I was older and we were living overseas, we did trips to Greece and Italy and Turkey.

We never went too far from home, especially in the summer. We had a membership to a pool club, so that is what we did in the summer. I can count on one hand the destination vacations (Disney, Europe twice) and a few driving vacations to the shore north and south of where we live.

DS on the other hand, is an international traveler. He's been on two transatlantic flights, visited 4 countries and we plan to continue. I wanted to go to London this month but we couldn't get tickets for the DaVinci exhibit, for example. It's part of the reason we might ultimately keep our family small, DH and I love to travel and we have to consider budget if we want to keep doing it.

Disney World once and my sister was so afraid to fly that we took a train...36 hours rather than a 3 hour flight- it was quite the experience.
We didn't camp but would rent cottages in NH every summer or go on road trips to Lake George or Six Flags in NJ. We always had a good time

My parents didn't have money for big vacations so we would take "driving trips"...My dad would whip out a map and pick a place and we'd spend hours driving there, picnicking, fish, nap, play, swim, then drive back.

The BIGGEST driving trip we took was when I was 7 - we road-tripped to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

We went everywhere! My mom was really good at making sure that we saw everything there was to see an do where ever we were living at the time (we moved 7 times in 12 years). I'm so thankful for that because I've seen more of this country than most people and I learned so much. Who knew roadtrips could be educational?

i mostly went to disney world. i have 6 distant girl cousins. i'm the oldest so i usually went along with them. we'd go every year. sometimes i'd get to go twice. i also went to the beach every year. and when i got older i went to san francisco, new york, branson, old smokey mountains, etc. i guess i traveled a bit. i still love to travel. every year we go 2-3 vacations. usually one big and a couple of smaller ones. i hope our little girl likes to travel, too!
