@Foodnerd81: Nope, no gas. In theory we could bury a container, but I've had a gas range before and I don't really think it's such an improvement over electric that it's worth the effort and expense of doing that.

The smooth cooktop is fine. There's a small learning curve, but you'll get the hang of it quickly. Cleaning it is so much more pleasant than cleaning coils/gas ranges! I feel like it heats up reasonably fast. However, it is sometimes a little scary to wield my really heavy cast iron pans over it. I'm always a little scared that I'll crack it.

@youboots: @Littlebit7: @looch: Okay, double-oven evangelists, tell me about these! Do you have two full-sized wall ovens, or did you get the freestanding type with the smaller compartment on the top? I'd have to remodel to do wall ovens, so that's off the table for now, but I'm kind of intrigued by the idea of a smaller oven over a larger one in one unit. It seems like the most efficient option since a lot of the time I'm just baking one pie or pan of fish or whatever, and heating up a smaller space would be less wasteful. I do cook a turkey once a year, though, and I have a cast iron dutch oven that I use a lot for baking bread--is there space for a whole bird/bigger pans in the bigger compartment? I'll go investigate at the stores with measurements of my cookware, but I'd love to hear about your experiences! Any brand/style recommendations?

@T.H.O.U.: Interesting! I never thought about having the canister somewhere inside. Although I think I probably won't go that route right now. That would still require more reno work than I am inclined to do. Our kitchen is only a few years old, although apparently the appliances are about 5-6 years old (and mostly junk...we replaced the dishwasher less than a year ago and the ice maker on the fridge died last year!)

@Foodnerd81: You'll get used to the cast iron stuff. I'm a little on the klutzy side and I haven't cracked/chipped/broken it! You can do it!

@erinbaderin: Thanks for the heads up on the pans! I have a few that would work, but I recently got a set of hand-me-down stainless steel pots that are really nice and I don't want to have to give them up and buy new ones.

@erinbaderin: Thanks, I tried the magnet. It didn't work on any of the new-to-me stainless steel Cuisinart set, my nearly-vintage Farberware, or my copper-bottom pot! Do you know the model number/name of your oven? Maybe they make a non-induction version--that splitting feature for the oven sounds perfect!

@looch: That sounds great! My current one has the drawer on the bottom, but I've never stored anything there. It's not a warmer drawer either, so it's useless! What brand/model did you get?
