What type of thermometer do you use for LO? We have been attempting to use the Braun in-ear thermometer and we just have such a tough time keeping him still enough to get an accurate read.
I was considering one of the temporal artery forehead types, but not sure if this is easy/accurate for a quick read. I am looking for something that can be used as a first step, before I try to get a rectal reading if I think he might be running a fever.

We have a temporal thermometer. It's also what we use in the hospital - they're great!

We have one with three different reads. The one we use right now is the rectal one. My ped's office won't 'believe' any temp unless it is a rectal one.

We did rectal only until he was 2. Because any other have a very low incorrect reading (even the doctors). At 2 we got the temporal and found he has to be done in a very specific location. Once we had that down it's been super easy and quick. Been taking his temp multiple times a day now for a few days. He does like to use it too "do it"

@jetsa: we had that too and it was awful! Always read 97.0 even when it was actually over 100.
We always do rectal but LMW is having a really hard time with it. WJ never minded that much. Now that he's 4 we do it under his arm and add a degree, but for LMW we might get the forehead one. They use that at our daycare and they just take it multiple times.

@mrs. wagon: yea it stresses me out. Last week I took it and it read 100.7 and then my DH took it several times and it was under 99, my placement couldn't have been that off. He's 3 months there's not much room behind his ears!

I do forehead first and if it shows she is warm then I do rectal to confirm.

Great suggestions, ladies! I tend to rely on the rectal read too but wondered if that was still the best over one year.

I love my thermometer! Haha, that's a weird thing to say, but I do! It doesn't make contact, so you don't have to clean it or use covers, nor would it wake a sleeping kiddo, it can also take room & surface temps & you can use it on little babies because it doesn't go in their ear.
