In a word: stressful!!!
We were like “did they seriously just let *us* leave with this teeny little baby? Alone?!” It was just us for a few hours, before our parents came over. LO was asleep when we first brought her home and we set her carrier down and let our cat slowwwwwwwwly slink up to the carrier, peek in and sniff baby. Then LO let out a peep of noise in her sleep and the cat flew back like 4 feet and ran upstairs!
My milk wasn’t in (never came in actually) and LO was starving and started screaming nonstop a few hours after we got home. I didn’t know about supplementing and was trying to bf her and listen to my mom and MIL tell me what to do. At some point someone ran out for formula, and then LO refused to take the bottle and just screamed and screamed and screamed. Plus, I tried to swaddle her which we found out only made LO even more ragey.
It was completely overwhelming.

He spent an extra day after I left the hospital in the NICU so he got discharged after his evening feeding and we got home around 8:00 and hubs immediately wanted to take a picture of the 3 of us - which was very sweet and very unlike him. My mom came over about an hour later and she held him for the first time and then we did a feeding and went to bed.

Well we came home earlier than baby by 1 day. The hospital told us to stay in our bed and get a good night's rest before returning to hospital (she was under lights for jaundice in NICU.) So we did laundry, got house all ready, and then returned to hospital at 6 am.
The day we actaully got to bring her home was a shock, as they had previously told us she wouldn't be ready to be released for at least another day. So it was such an exciting feeling to bring her home and show her her new house. We cuddled up on the couch as a family and watched our college football team (or DH watched while we napped!) it was fabulous!!!

i cried in the car on the way home because i was so in love and so excited to bring her home! my in laws were at our house and our neighbors had decorated our house for our arrival. i remember getting home and thinking, oh, we have a baby, but we still have to unpack just like every other trip! i think our neighbors brought us food that night after my in laws left. don't remember much else! ha

I think we unpacked the car and sat on our couch for a minute wondering how they let us leave the hospital with a tiny baby.
Then we had to blow up an air mattress and put together a bassinet for LO- it was in the 90s when we came home and our house was waaaay too hot to sleep upstairs! My poor husband gave me this look like, "Are you serious?" When I told him we needed to put the bassinet together!!
