With DS1, it was 2 hours of pushing after epi wore off...
With DS2, L&D was so fast... probably the worst of it was the contractions near the end before pushing!

DD1: going through 3 1/2 hours of pushing a stuck baby that ended up in a C-section.
DD2: umm...getting up to walk after my RCS? honestly it was a breeze for me the second time.

Pretty much the same!...
Dd1: 2 hours of pushing after 28 hours of labor with a fading epi. I was so worried I'd have to get a c section after all that
Dd2: how quickly she came (no time for an epi, as much as I wanted one) and experiencing the transition contractions without any meds. Holy CRAP that hurt !!

Pushing for both!!! But pushing for #2 was definitely easier than #1 - it just was still the hardest part.

@Charm54: yep we had pretty much identical L&Ds with both

LO1 transition, right before I started pushing. I'd been in labor for a while and was tired and afraid I couldn't do it for much longer- but when they told me I was at 9 cm and in transition I got a boost of energy to get through.
LO2 it was more the shock of how fast it went, and how out of control I felt towards the end. Labor was fast and routine and pushing took hardly any time, but it was so fast.
Really though, pregnancy and the first few newborn weeks were way harder than labor and delivery for me.

DD1: The hardest part was having to come to terms with a c-section after 14 hours of unmedicated labor and 3+ hours pushing with a posterior forehead out stuck baby. And then the fear of the c-section.
DD2: The insane on-top-of-one-another minute apart contractions after the OB broke my water at 5cm. It was pure hell! (I will not be allowing the water breaking this time until closer to the end like for DD1.)

pushing. the epidural was 100% working but i felt like my eyeballs were going to explode out of their sockets.

#1--pushing
#2--I had a really great and calming birth so none of it seems hard compared to the other 2. But I'd have to say pushing.
#3--the entire thing! I had a placental abruption so it was difficult and traumatic from start to finish!
pineapple / 12053 posts
1: delivering the placenta. So much pain and I thought it should be over since baby was here already!
2: pushing. It was very quick but hurt like the fire of a thousand suns. I even screamed the f word and said I couldn't do it but DH was like, she's right there and you ARE doing it already!

I have GOT to stop reading these threads at 37 weeks... I should know better!

Epidural wore off (pushed for 2 hours) so I felt everything at the end, and I broke my tailbone in the process.

#1 - pushing. I had an epi but it didn't take away the pain of pushing.
#2 - probably just waiting for the epi! I was almost fully dilated by the time it came but once it did - sweet relief and painless pushing!
pear / 1770 posts
At about 9.5 cm the contractions were so strong (no epi) that I was pushing involuntarily - the pain was so overwhelming I felt like I was going to die. Directed pushing at 10cm was pretty damn bad, too.

DS was a preemie so the worst bit was trying to stop labor and being simultaneously worried that we wouldn't be able to and that we would and then I'd have to do it all over again later. Plus guilt.
With DD it was the pain of her head pushing on the front of my pelvic bone. So sharp and distinct.

LO1- 36 hours of labor then emergency C-section
LO2, newborn stage with a 4 year old was way harder than my RCS

That I was induced and in labor for 42 hours. So lack of sleep? Anxiety?
persimmon / 1095 posts
Actual labor: feeling nauseous, having the shakes, and throwing up 3 times. Once I had the epidural I was golden.

DS-Long back labor with an epidural that stopped working
DD-Anxiety before C-section (breech baby). And trying to poop once we got home--I was pretty much bawling every time I even tried! Did not have that problem after DS!

ds1: pushing for 5 hours, but i got him out, i was SO exhausted.
ds2: pushing again, only for an hour this time, but he was sideways and weighed 9lbs, 6oz and was just hard to get him out!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
Two hours of pushing. I think it was b/c I got induced and had already been at the hospital for closer to 24 hrs by the time I was ready to push so I just had no strength.

Having to answer admittance questions during contractions. I was (and still am) pissed that they lost my pre-admittance paperwork and it all just seemed pointless when I was approaching transition.

2 hours of pushing, even with the epi. I ended up with a forceps delivery, because turned out the kid had his arm up at his head. Probably because he didn't want to come out . The other thing that really got me, was that my epi worked to well. At one point they gave me some medicine to help lower my Bp and it made me so sick that I threw up all over myself and DH and MIL while they held me up because I couldn't pick up my body. That sucked!

With L, the hardest part was pushing. I had an epi but it took 2 hours to push him out. Also, looking back, I think the epi was too much for me and I was a little out of it
With J, the hardest part was waiting for the doctor to gown up when I was ready to push. I advanced so fast, no one was ready. When she was finally gowned, it was 1 push for the head, 1 push for the shoulders and done but holding him "in" was awful

@avivoca: I FEEL you on this. For us, it wasn't paperwork--it was just the couple of minutes of waiting for someone to come get us. I was a complete wreck--doubled over, couldn't talk, etc. I didn't know it at the time, but I was already 10cm dilated. There was a woman checking in right after me who was happily dancing, snapping her fingers, and singing "It's go time! It's go time!" I don't often want to punch people, but....

Being in labor for 23+hrs. My contractions & dilation slowed after getting the epidural (which I was trying to avoid ). And then pushing was SO hard! It is NOT intuitive to know how to push out a baby!
grapefruit / 4361 posts
Taking freaking 12 hours to go from 8 centimeters to 10 centimeters unmedicated, with the threat of a C-section under general anesthesia hanging over my head... Yeah, having low platelets and no epi allowed totally sucks.
honeydew / 7230 posts
Immediately after, I would have said the epidural failing and the 4.5 hrs of pushing. Two years out, I'm mostly just sad about being separated from my LOs for 2 hrs after delivery, then not getting to spend much time with them with just DH before the grandparents whisked in. I was so drugged up that the first 24 hrs are a huge fog and I don't remember a lot of things about actually meeting my babies.

My induction failed at 6 cm and I got my epidural at 4-5cm so I wasn't feeling anything. I was tired when we decided to do a c-Section. Worst parts was throwing up before the deciding the c-section (maybe from the high pitocin) and throwing up in the OR. Oh, staying awake during the c-section. I heard both cries when they were born and then fell asleep. I do wonder why I was so tired. Was it because I was just tired or was it the meds I took?

Pushing for 4.5 hours. And then baby needing to go to NICU. Not so much the pain but the endurance battle and frustration from not making progress.
pear / 1697 posts
How long it took, exhaustion, and having no idea how much longer it might take.

DD: Transition. Things were manageable until that hit. Luckily it didn't last long before I was pushing
DS: holding him in before they let me push. I went through transition way quicker than they were expecting and the doctor wasn't there yet, so I had to hold him in through 4-5 contractions. The upside was that when it was time to push it literally took 1 1/2 little ones and he was out!
@Foodnerd81: I totally agree that the first few newborn weeks are harder than labor!
pomegranate / 3192 posts
DS - pushing for 2 hours. Exhausting doesn't even begin to describe it. I felt like I was making no progress.
DD - I had an amazing L&D but I'd say transition was the worst. It's the only time I felt out of control.
