The actual CS for LO 1 and the first 24 hours afterwards was hard for me. The anesthesia wore off during my surgery and my pain management afterwards was terrible.
The worst pain for LO 2 was when the Drs and nurses were trying to get my uterus to contract during a PP hemorrhage. The pushing, pulling, etc....ouch!

LO was pressing against my sacrum & that ached, but honestly, somehow only 6wks out, I've already forgotten what was painful enough to warrant getting the epidural!! Lol!!

for both kids i got my epidural pretty early on so contractions weren't super painful yet. getting the IV put in though. OMG. apparently i have a lot of valves in my vein so I got poked and proded way too many times for both kids. i def got a bad bruise from it the second time around.

The contractions prior to epidural felt like my insides were ripping out of me. That hurt.

I can't remember! I do remember the first contractions after my water broke were really intense. And the last few contractions before I felt the urge to push were bad enough that I asked the midwife about an epidural, but when she checked me and told me I was almost there I was able to go without it.
Pushing wasn't so bad. Having the vacuum inserted at the end really sucked but was fast at least!

It was driving to the hospital both times. For LO1 the worst was when DH had to make a U-turn during a contraction. For LO2 it was the whole ride to the hospital. I was in excruciating pain and we were stuck in traffic. I felt a lot better when we got in the hospital and they said I was 10cm and ready to push.

I never felt anything before my water broke. Within minutes of my water breaking I started feeling like I was getting electrocuted in my spine, later found out it was back labor and DS was in an unfavorable position. I thought I was having a seizure/stroke since I had pre-e. I never felt any abdominal pain.

it was after when my uterus wouldn't contract and they were pushing on my to get the placenta out, stop bleeding. i was like, why the hell are they doing that?! with all the contractions and stuff, it all felt like it was for a reason, so once DD was born, any pain seemed unnecessary!

The contractions made me feel like I had to poop but every time I would get in the position of sitting on the toilet the pain from the contractions got 10 times worse.

When I was pushing I had an awful leg cramp. Then when I had my episiotomy they told me I wouldn't notice it because I was already in so much pain but that def wasn't the case! I didn't have an epidural but clearly the actual labor isn't even what I remember being the worst.

Ooooohhhhh yeah. DS position made it feel like my hips were being ripped apart. I had an epidural but also had tons of pitocin.

when my OB turned off my epidural while I was pushing and I went from feeling nothing to feeling 100%. It was so painful I couldn't do anything and just cried until they turned it back on.

With Xander, crowning! He had a big head (38 cm) and it HURT to push that thing out!
Probably the same with Logan, but it wasn't nearly as bad because he was #2 and his head was smaller.

DD1....having back to back contractions while I came off a stadol high. That's when I asked for the epi.
Dd2....trying to keep from pushing while the doc scrubbed up. It was torture.

Childbirth. For me, the pain of pushing out a (almost 9 lb, posterior) baby unmedicated was far worse than the pain of contractions. I can't even describe it. I don't know how some people say that pushing feels good!

Pushing out a sunny side up baby with no meds and having an episiotomy with lo1 to avoid an emergency c.
Lo2 was just painful and I remember the burning. Anyone who thinks I'm lucky for having a precipitous birth should hear the 911 call!

The awful back labour, followed very closely by postpartum when my 30+ stitches got infected and the ER doc had to do an internal exam.

My epidural was failing. They kept topping me up to numb me all the way up to my neck and it would fade out 20 min later. DD (twin A, so closer to my cervix) was stuck and I was in hour 4 of pushing and there was a freaking shift change, so everyone left the room. I was scared to push, thinking she was somehow,going to come flying out all of a sudden. So I was curled up in a ball, refusing to push, and screaming my head off. DH had to get up on the table with me and calm me down because it was like my whole body was freaking out. He's like "pushing will help," and I was just yelling that I didn't want him to have to deliver her!

The contractions at the 25th hour (6cm dilated on pit). They were the worst, most painful knotting/twisting sensation in my uterus that radiated out and literally made me nauseous. I got an epidural at that point and it was heaaaaaven.

I went from 0.5 cm to 2.5 cm in 1 hour, and then all the way to 10 in 1 1/2 hrs, at which point my epidural arrived. I got it even though I was fully dilated, and it was still 6 more hours before I gave birth. The last half hour of transition was the worst, I was shaking from the pain so bad, and, when I could speak, I kept asking when the anesthesiologist was going to arrive. I hadn't planned on an unmediated birth, so I was not prepared for so much pain. I think it was so much worse because I dilated so quickly.

I would say my contractions right before I got my epidural. They gave me Stadol, to try and tAke the edge off, but that just made me feel sick, and I wasn't able to even open my eyes. So it was impossible to cope with the contractions at all.

Contractions. Mine were the worst. I could feel them in my thighs. Both times, I remember writhing in pain throughout them until the epidural arrived. With LO #2, the pressure from him practically pushing himself out was painful. Little dude pretty much broke his bag of waters leading up to delivery.

For my first labor, it was being in transition at home and having to go back to the hospital during rush hour because it was getting really bad!
For my second, which turned out to be an unmedicated birth (not totally by choice, but due to how fast she came), it was right when we got to the hospital but they made me wait because they didn't think I was that far along... but it turned out that I was 9.5 when they checked, so I was definitely in lots of pain. The most difficult part was wanting to push, but everyone telling me not to... And then, when they said, "Okay, you can push now", I was like, "Hell NO! You want me to what (with no meds)???" haha.
For my 3rd, I can't really complain... I had a relatively good experience and knew when to ask for the epidural

Definitely the hours and hours of continuous contractions one on top of the other. Pushing was a doddle compared to that, even with a 98th centile head to contend with!

Definitely the 3-4 hours I spent at 9cm! Wee dude was niggling on and off my cervix so I would have a run of really "pushy" contractions then have a run of normal ones - so unpleasant!

Because I have selectively forgotten the pain of childbirth, I'll have to say the breastfeeding contractions and when the nurses pushed on my uterus to get it to shrink....and stop bleeding so much.

Having S's shoulders stuck and the Dr trying to get her unstuck was the worst pain ever. Anesthesiologist came in and made me numb from shoulders down and it was the greatest blessing. Recovery from the tear was horrible, also.

Going through transition on my back (my choice, i was exhausted from walking for 10 hours at home), followed by having a few clots manually removed.

Transition when my Epi wore off and they couldn't get it working again... It was horrible. Pushing felt so painfully amazing though!

Transition was probably the worst but somehow labor is a mellow haze in my mind note. However, getting stitches at the end was horrifying. I guess lidocaine (?) doesn't work well in the tissue where I tore and basically I had to just grit my teeth and get through it. It actually really soured my view of the "golden hour."

So interesting all the different responses.
For me it was the back labor with very close contractions. Turns out I was transitioning but I thought it was going to go on forever. My first few pushes when the midwife held back the lip of my cervix were not pleasant but pushing was great.
