Did you have to make a leprechaun trap when you were in school? Do kids these days still make them?
Anyway, what was the best trap you made or saw?
I honestly can't remember mine.

We didn't have them. But my daughter has crafted them for two years now (she's 4.5) and both years it's been the same, a build a bear box. This is from last year, I didn't get a picture of this year's version.

From wiki: Leprechaun Traps are crafts with an Irish folklore background. It is a common activity to happen in Elementary school, or in Families with younger kids on Saint Patrick’s Day, Leprechauns are known to have gold, so to catch one would lead to great wealth. There are many varieties of traps. Since Leprechauns are mythical creatures, they cannot get trapped, but instead leave behind gold, or other signs they have visited. Leprechaun Trapping can be compared to leaving cookies out for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. The traps are set up the night before St. Patrick's Day.

@MamaG: Thanks!
Yup, when I was in school, we always brought our traps in and the next day we would see how they did.

I don't know that I've heard of this, but I think DS would love it so I think we need to try and make one!

@MamaG: Oh, I don't remember the great wealth part. I just remember the big prize was to try to catch a leprechaun. Of course, no one ever caught one.
I'm sure as a teacher, they loved destroying kid's traps. Haha.

Yah, our trap is pretty basic. I hope as she gets older that she'll get innovative and it will be more fun.

Never made one. I can't imagine one more thing to have to craft on my plate right now. Haha.

We never did this growing up - I'm Chinese.
I know DD1's teachers did this today for their daycare party. Not sure what though.

I've never heard of a leprechaun trap, that is until today. My FB feed is filled with them. Ironically, I'm part Irish too!

I never made one. But there was a 1st grade teacher at my elementary school who assigned one every year and I used to love looking at them all. They always had to use a green strawberry basket in them.

DH has never heard of them and he grew up a town over from me. I thought it was regional but I guess it's not. I think my whole elementary school (certain grades) participated in it. It would be interesting to know if my elementary school still does it. I think it was maybe 3rd grade.
