I'll be starting solids next month when LO turns 6m. I am trying to decide between cereals or just going straight to puréed fruits and veggies.
What was your LO's first food? Also, cause I'm curious, when did you start giving LO water to drink?

Avocado. And water around 6 months in very limited quantities

Avacado, cut into tiny pieces. Then banana. We gave her some oatmeal a few weeks into solids? I offered water, but she didn't start really drinking it until recently, maybe at 7.5 months.

Bananas! I started offering water in a straw cup at 6 months but she didn't really know how to suck on it until 7 months.

Bananas. I offered water in a sippy or straw cup starting around 6 months, but she has never really been into water (she just turned 1yo).

We started with cereals, then moved pretty quickly onto orange veggies. I started offering her water in a sippy cup at mealtime. She *loves* the sippy cup (at 6 months). Even though she can get water out (I give her a full cup so she doesn't have to completely tilt it up), she still doesn't drink much. Maybe an ounce or so?
I guess I should add that we use the Nuby cup. Her ped recommended a soft spout with handles, so that is what we went with!

Banana. Which she hated! So we did avocado instead. After a few rough starts, I broke down and gave her homemade rice cereal. It did help her ease into it... I also offer water but she only knows how to drink from some sippy cups. (So far no luck with the straw at 7.5 mos).

Sweet Potato! Then carrots and apple I think. He didn't like any of those right away (though now he loves them!), but loved banana! We intro'd water around 6 months.

Avocado! Then sweet potato, then banana then apple then egg then carrots then spinach... tonight maybe squash? I gave her sips of water when she got thirsty after a few bites. She mastered the zoli straight away.

I started with rice cereal but she hated it. Then I tried mashed banana - hated it! She still hates both! We finally had success with tomatoey purees - tomato and red pepper, Mediterranean risotto etc. From there, she tried spinach and she adores it! She also loves porridge!
E will drink water from a bottle but not from a sippy. I don't offer it often (at 5.5 months) but I'm wondering if I should start?

Looks like lots of HB go straight to food! LO takes well to the sippy cup at 5 months, with my BM in it. She never would take a bottle from me, but can hold and drink from the sippy herself, with just a tiny bit of help! I am thinking for solids I will either do avacado, banana or sweet potato to start. I'm so excited to start her, but like I said, we are going to Florida right before she is 6 months and think it's easier if she is EBF still for the trip.

We haven't started anything yet but it sounds like I should start the sippy or straw cup soon! I'm planning to skip cereal and go right to real food, probably sweet potato. She will be six months at the end of this month and we are going to start blw then.
@delight: I would def wait until after the trip. We traveled over her five month birthday and I'm glad I didn't have to worry about food, or the new digestive things that might come along with the food! So easy to just whip out a boob instead.

Avocado, which they did not like. We give them snippy cups wth water but I don't think they actually drink anything from it!

Broccoli. She really liked it! We started solids a little after 6 months. I gave her a zoli cup with about an ounce of water with her 'dinner.' She loves water though, so even now at 11 months I only give her an ounce or two at a time and only with dry foods, not with like pears, or else I'm afraid she'd fill up on water. We still nurse 7 or 8 times a day so I'm not worried about fluids lol.

Rice cereal but he hated it and oat cereal. He did much better with purées mixed with cereal.

Smashed up avocado. We started giving water when we would feed her solids.

Sweet potato. I gave water in a sippie around the same time (6 months). We did rice cereal next, and then oatmeal which was more appealing to both of us

Pears, he loved them! I also did a mash instead of purée and he did great!
honeydew / 7968 posts
Bananas! Then avocados! Can't remember when we started giving water. Probably when we started solids, so around 6-7 months.

We went tgrough the cereals in the order the dr recommended (to test for allergies) and after that it was green beans, I think! Green veggies, then yellow, then orange, followed by fruits.

Thanks for asking this! I'm going to discuss it with her ped at her 6-month checkup but I am leaning towards starting with sweet potato (jarred).

Just coming back to say we started solids on the weekend and I did oat cereal first and then we've done one day of sweet potato! Next on the menu is pears!

Banana- I let him go to town on a big chunk. He barely had any teeth so he was more just sucking on it. He loved it (now he hates bananas!)

Banana and avocado. She's a total food monster. We did BLW and never did cereals. We also didn't introduce one food at a time. Our doctor said that advice was outdated unless you have a family history of food allergies

Started with rice cereal at 4 months (docs wanted us to work on weight gain) adn then we mixed in sweet potatoes with it.

Rice cereal, then squash here! We offered water when we started solids and he took to it right away.

Banana and avocado...followed soon by sweet potato. He has always loved to eat and will literally eat anything!

We are going to start with baby oatmeal & then I think sweet potato! So excited!
honeydew / 7811 posts
Bananas first. Smooshed up at first, but then in big chunks (BLW style). Then sweet potato, avocado and oatmeal came next. Skipped cereal and purees.
Didn't introduce water until around 8/9 months.
