We will most likely have our two dogs boarded when the time comes to go to the hospital. We need to check with our boarders though.

My FIL will pick up the dog and take him to his house!

MIL and FIL had keys to come in and feed our cat. In fact we had to call and get them to go over shortly after we left for the hospital because in all the flapping around (unplanned induction) we forgot to feed the poor guy!

We live less than a mile from the hospital. DH went home and fed the cats.

With DD my sister and her boyfriend came over and brought the dog to their apartment. They ended up keeping our dog for maybe the first week that the baby was home - which was helpful!
For DS my mom was already coming here to watch big sister so she had the dog too.

I was originally hoping my parents would take care of our dog but in the months leading up to LO's arrival they said they couldn't help. My due date was Labor Day and I hesitated to make arrangements to board because so often the boarding facilities want a down payment when there is a holiday and for all I know I could go into labor early. I waited till it was time to go to the hospital which ended up being Labor Day weekend and we called our vet and the closest boarding facility explaining the situation. The boarding facility was super nice and made room for our dog.

We went to the hospital around 7am so at 5pm my BIL came and got our dog and he spent the night at their house. Hubs went and picked him up the next day when he went home to shower and the 2nd night hubs slept home

They are ok alone for a while, so once I went in to labour my mom started her drive to come up (3 hours). My neighbours were on call in case my mom got delayed or anything.

My husband's boss came and walked our dog and fed the cats, and then T went home for a few hours the day after she was born.

My dog went to live with my parents for the first few weeks while we get situated with the baby.

My brother stayed at our house while we were in the hospital to take care of our 2 dogs and 2 cats

My parents will be taking DS so they will take the dog too. When I was in labour with DS, my parents kept the dog for us. They picked her up when my labour started on a Wednesday which was helpful because I laboured until Friday before I delivered and I was glad to not have to worry about her.

@bluestriped bee: Our in-laws live about 5 minutes away from us and 20 minutes away from the hospital. They'll most likely take our dog, or one of our friends will when the time comes.

We have neighbors a few doors down that regularly dog-sit for us, so she went there. We will probably have the same plan for this one at least until my parents make it to town to take LO1.

Dogs went to my inlaws. Normally, my inlaws stay at the house to dog-sit, but I didn't want me and M to be bombarded with the dogs greeting us when we walked in the door. They came home a few hours after we did.
Cats went with D to my parents' house.
ETA: I had a planned c section, so it was easy to plan ahead for it all.

My in-laws took care of our dog at their house for a week. It was really nice of them, our dog is quite a handful and doesn't get along with one of their dogs! It also allowed me time to heal before I had to take her out on my own. To be honest, I don't actually remember the first 2 weeks and how I took care of the dog haha

My mom was in charge of that. She stayed at our house with the animals (and cleaned a lot!). I don't know what her original plan was if I had had a long labor, since she wanted to be at the hospital (not in the room!), but I left it up to her, and it wound up not being an issue.

We'll call my sister and she'll come pick up our dog and take care of her until we get back. Very lucky to have her and know we don't have to worry about timing!

My parents are 2 mins away so they will take him, though I'm guessing my ILs will drive up when I go into labor like they did for DD in which case he will just stay here with them

My dog lived with my parents for two weeks. It was a huge convenience. I don't know if you have any alternatives to boarding but we've only boarded our dog once and she came home with two different illnesses. It was a huge hassle that I would not have wanted to deal with recovering from birth and with a newborn.

Our cat is fine on her own for up to a week as long as we leave lots of food. I know MIL will pop in to see her if needed too.

MIL house sat while I was in labor (for two days) and while we were recovering, 4 nights total. It was really nice. Since I had an emergency induction a week early as in I went to the hospital and did not return home for 5 days.... the house was not as organized as I would have liked it. She cleaned, stocked our fridge and took care of the dogs. Bless her.

I gave my mom my keys in the hospital and she went over everyday to feed our cats.

My parents live 20 min away and they have keys so we just called to say we were on our way to the hospital and they came to get him and took him to their house.

We kind of pieced it together. DH had a work friend stop by after work (late night) and we had friends vacationing here in FL who had a rental car and they also did the daytime trips to take them out. They were also sweet and did some chores for us too!

We live about 5 minutes from the hospital, so DH would come feed them & take the dog out. He actually had to run home & take the dog out when I was about 8cm since we knew he wouldn't want to leave once DS arrived.

My husband took care of them. We figured he would have time to grab a snack and let the dog out once I was admitted. Baby decided to come out sooner, but he was still home to let him out within 8 hours.
My parents came into town shortly afterwards, let the dog out and fed the cats... again, less than an hour after my husband had
The second time my IL's were staying with our oldest, so they took care of everything.

We forgot... lol. To be fair we have a cat, not a dog, although he is very dog like. We were in the hospital and I freaked out during a con traction that no one feed the cat. DH ended up going home because labor stalled, we had someone feed him until we got home.

@bluestriped bee: We have four dogs. They will be split between my parents' house and a dog-sitter.

My parents came and stayed at my house while I was in the hospital. I went to the hospital around 10 pm and my parents couldnt get there until the next morning so I felt awful having my dog spend the night alone. He was fed and was let out to potty so he was physically fine but I hated for him to sleep alone. But labor kept my mind off that and he survived

We have one cat. We stocked him up on food before we left for the hospital and he was fine until we got home (we were gone less than 48 hours). If a longer hospital stay had been necessary, DH could have gone home (15-20 minute drive each way) or we could have called a friend who has the key code to our house and she would have dropped by.

My dad was camping (literally!) in our backyard so we left him the key to take care of the pets.
We've moved since then and now my in-laws live just 2 miles away so they will pet-sit for us. They usually just stay at our house in that case because their condo doesn't allow animals.

They stayed with my parents with DS. They have been living with my parents since before DD was born lol (I broke my leg during pregnancy and we had no yard so my parents offered to take them. We moved when she was a few months old and haven't transitioned them home yet....I do go to my parents daily to care for them).

We had friends who lived about 30 min away who would have taken him if needed. As it ended up we left for hospital at 2 am., LO was born before 7 am, and DH went home mid afternoon to check up on them.
