Thinking of ideas for my step-daughter's 16th birthday, and thought it'd be fun to hear what everyone else's was like.
What did you do for your 16th birthday?

It wasn't anything huge. I invited my best girlfriends over for a sleepover. Ate lots of junk food, watched dumb movies, stayed up super late, etc. It was fun, but nothing crazy!

Nothing too fancy for mine, I just had my 4 best girl friends over and we were free to roam the mall and shop for the afternoon. I remember trying on ridiculous dresses at Debs. I think I got a bunch of "princess' accessories for my car, like a fuzzy steering wheel and seat cover, lol.

@Adira: Brings back memories! Me and my bestie used to watch movies after school with a giant bag of ruffles and french onion dip, lol. She's All That, 10 Things I Hate About You, Drop Dead Gorgeous...

@josina: Oh my gosh, such good movies!
ETA: I think we might've watched The Craft and tried to play Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board, hahaha.

@shabang: Thats where we are at with my step-daughter - and then I'm like, well she is SIXTEEN, its kinda a big deal? I'm thinking we'll take her and her bff to do facials/makeup/shopping and dinner maybe.

I was able to invite a pretty large (10-12 i think) group of friends for dinner at a nice-ish (nice to a group of teens) restaurant. We all got dressed up for it too. It was nice to include friends both male and female and my boyfriend at the time.

@josina: That sounds really nice. I'm sure when my kids are that age, I'll be trying to figure out something too.

My birthday is in the summer, I spent the day with my BFF, her boyfriend and one of his friends. The only thing I remember is paddle boating on the local lake and eating oreos. I think I spent the night at her house and we stayed up watching movies? It was so long ago!

I'm pretty sure we just had steaks at home with my boyfriend at the time and maybe a few of my friends.

My mom took me and my two besties out along with my mom’s best friend and one of the besties mom’s to a murder mystery dinner theatre show. We had a blast! Our table as the kids say now was lit and we participated in the show quite a bit.

I had 3 friends over for a sleepover (which was a miracle because with 3 kids my parents only allowed one friend)
Stayed up all night, watched movies, ate too much chocolate, I think my parents ordered a giant pizza for us. That is also the night I tripped and fell over my mom's elliptical in the living room and busted my lip wide open. Still have a scar on my lip to this day

Like @JennyPenny: I invited about 8 of my friends to my favorite dinner place and my parents paid.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: That sounds fun... made me think of possibly booking an escape room for her and a friend too, she'd love that.
@Sams Mom: lol, well at least you'll think of your 16th bday everytime you see the scar. I did something similar for my 21st, - I ended up with a bandaid on my chin all night! There may have been alcohol involved.

We had a big organized caterted party. With about 100 guests. Looking back t was kind of over the top but I loved it and it was kind of the norm in my social circle and church.

My parents rented a limo for me and a few friends and we went to a movie! A new movie theater had just opened where you could reserve these large leather seats. It felt so novel at the time! They even had real food at the concession stand, like chicken fingers

@Sams Mom: lol. Right!
@Mrsbells: I was kind of thinking of the big Sweet 16 parties that they used to air on MTV. I figured someone here had to have 'big' party! (even if it wasn't THAT big)
@LadyDi: That would be amazing!

My friends threw me a surprise pool party/co-ed sleepover (the boys slept outside in tents) at a friend’s house. It was great.

@shabang: I’m with you, nothing big. I think maybe I asked my parents to eat at Chili’s

Mine was a “bonfire” in my back yard with guys and girls. I have a sept birthday so its the perfect time of year for that. My parents made burgers and hot dogs on the grill. We did marshmallows/s’mores on the fire. Music (lots of Matchbox 20 “Push” on repeat 🤣).
21 years later and it’s still one of my favorite memories.

My friend and I had a joint sweet 16 party. It was at a local community center and we had a DJ. Seems so over the top now

There’s 4 girls in my family and my dad took us each on our own trip somewhere in the world when we turned 16 - the only caveat being we had to learn how to do something new together. My dad and I learned how to scuba dive and then went on a father daughter diving trip to the Caribbean. It was awesome and now as an adult I really fully appreciate putting the time and effort into those trips .

My family and 5 closest friends got really dressed up and went to a fancy restaurant. We probably had a sleepover after but I don't really remember.

I honestly can't remember. I think I had been recently dumped by my first "real" boyfriend of a year. so I probably didn't feel like doing much. I do remember having a luau for my 15th birthday, tho!

I can't remember, so, other than getting my driver license (which I do remember!), it must not have been anything special.
